tbimm
In just over an hour I will be hearing the sweet buzz of the needle myself. I cant freakin wait. The original artist bowed out as he felt the piece was too difficult for him and passed me off to another artist whos work is absolutely amazing! The piece will have to be drawn on free hand first as the detail wont work with the machine they use to make the template. It appears as though it will take somewhere in the area of 10 hours to complete. 5 of which we will be doing today. The second round will be to fill in colors in areas where the skin swells too much to precisely apply new color to. Have I mentioned that I cant freakin wait? Men In Tights
I am partial to getting it done on your back. I think the arm tats are overdone, especially the dang barbwire (although some tats on forearms do look good). I do agree with the other posts making sure you can cover up with a dress shirt. good luck with whatever you decide and update once you decide. I have one on the middle of my upper back, basically starts just below the t-shirt collar line. I want to get two more as I didn't think the first one through enough. It is basically something that looks like flames. i want to get a egyptian dog on each side some day and then maybe the ititials of my daughter and soon to be born son. cheezhed
I'm still deciding obviously whether I want one or not still but the big question is where to get it now.... First of all, you post says, "I want a tattoo". So, to me that question is answered. Go with your heart. If you feel this is a way to honor your father, then so be it. It's your body. You can't get a tattoo, if your worried what everyone else will think. A quote for ya...."those that mind, don't matter.....and those that matter, don't mind" I have the Japanese symbol for spirit and soul on my upper back inside a 5" cross with my mother's initials. She passed when I was only 7. If you feel strongly about this, then go for it. I would suggest that particular tat that you are looking at be put on your chest close to your heart. Good luck. ps. Tats are addicting!! Don't be surprised if this ISN'T your only one. I now have 4. Edited July 6, 2006 by cheezhed
Whiskey Pimp
And I'm like 99.9% this will be my only tattoo. I wouldn't be so sure about that. I was 99.9% sure that my first one would be my only. I currently have 2 and am getting drawings worked on for possibly 3 others. They all mean something to me and the 2 I have are not visible in the "corporate world". I have my first one on my left upper arm right at the shoulder and my second one is on my hip with half under the waistline and the other half above it so it shows if I have no shirt on. Unless I go to a company retreat where it's either too hot for a shirt or there is swimming involved, no one will see mine.

Goopster24
So I went downtown to Jade Dragon today and just spend some time getting a feel, walking around and talking to people there. Everyone was very friendly and they gave me much of the same info that people have given me here. They gave me a ballpark of the price and stuff and said that I could just basically come in anytime and show them my necklace (which has an Om) and they could take the design straight from there. Pretty straightforward. So I'm looking to get it either the last week in July or the first week in August. That way, I'll have time to I guess "recover" before I go to school August 12. I'm pretty sure this is what I want. I still need to figure what else I want to put with the Om; whether it be just my Dad's initials or more. I was thinking maybe adding the day he died but I'm not sure. The location is still something I'm going crazy over though.

They can show you all the different ways they can write the letters. cool stuff. I would leave out the date. ChuckB
That is of the tattoo artist. I knew you would bust me on that one BJ's right that is the guy who did my tattoo, and those are the members of Slipknot who he happens to be friends with. Here is a poor picture of my tattoo, and I plan on adding to it soon. Edited July 7, 2006 by ChuckB

So if this is the tattoo (the symbol itself, not a circle around it or anything), would you just have the initials below it or what? And do you have any ideas of anything else to add no? ChuckB
I don't know if this is possible, but what about larger faded initals which appear to be in the background and the symbol "out front" and prominent directly in the center. Again I don't know if that is possible but I'm sure with a good artist it may be

Goopster24
Put SG in where it says enter text and check out some tattoo fonts I went through a lot of them just now and it seems like most of them are somewhat blocky or regular straight text. I was thinking maybe more of a elegant style, like cursive, considering the symbol looks like that. Any ideas?

BeeR
Personally, I'd find another way to honor my father's memory.Amen. People are finally starting to come around to how basically stupid and tacky tatoos are. Don't be the last to catch the train. Just IMO
