cliaz
The fact that we have all these countries that are involved in the middle east with us, N.K. screwing around and Japand/China getting their hands dirty. Some other country threating to test fire a missle that will be able to hit China. Is it me or would you all agree that what is going on right now in the world is WWIII? Think about it for a second. My wife asked me this question yesterday and it didn't dawn on me until this morning. What needs to be put in place for it to be called a world war? There are a lot of countries involved. and it looks like it's gonna expand to the rice countries.

Joe Cool
I wouln't call it WWIII yet. If NK does something stupid and SK and the US have to retaliate it may become WWIII.

AtomicCEO
It depends how the alliances fall down. China and Russia seem to be stonewalling the UN on what seems like a pretty basic proposal to sanction NK. I'm not sure how willing they are to back Kim Jong Il... considering, you know... he's batsh:t crazy. I do know that if alliances are forming, and countries are picking sides for a cold war OR a world war... I'd much rather have a president who knew what the hell he was doing when it came to diplomacy and foreign policy. Christ, we pissed off most of Europe with the incredibly stupid way we promoted our Iraq position. Or... maybe I'm forgetting about Poland. JoJoTheWebToedBoy
I don't believe that North Korea would qualify as WWIII. It would be over in a month or two. From what I have seen and read, over the past several years I believe if the flare goes up China will sit on the sideline. They are not going to risk their economy (which has done more to make them a global power then anything else) by pairing up with an what the rest of the world sees as an outlaw nation. Espically if they (NK) strikes the first blow. If they did, every gain they have made in the last 20 years would be gone and they know it. And Russia, they could care less. The cold war is over and they would have no interest in backing a country because its communist. As for the North Korean military, fierce, brainwashed, and has the most to lose. And they would be backed by the urban civilian population in the beginning. But get to the countryside where many of the people are still starving to death. Where parents have watched their children slowly die while the military is kept fat and happy and any government support would vanish once you started feeding them. Without China, they would be fighting with technology barely above what they were using during the Korean war. All of there heavy armour and airpower would be lost in the first couple of weeks and the governemnt and military would defeated within a couple of months. We did do something VERY wrong.... if they were taking bribes from Saddam, and somehow we ended up being the bad guy in European opinion polls. Don't you think taking bribes from a dictator, and subverting the UN's resolutions is bad? I sure do. So... how come people think we're the ones that screwed up? In the end... Yeah, I guess the country that invaded and occupied another country based on completely faked intelligence while giving the finger to their allies is the one who loses friends. Weird how that happens. Maybe, we should have taken our time and exposed the corruption that was sending money to Saddam. Then, maybe we would have a better leg to stand on. It also would have deflated an already impotent Saddam as well. Oh, and it would have saved us a trillion dollars and 2000 lives. Not to mention, it would have left us in a better position to deal with North Korea, Iran, and Osama Bin Laden. So... again... when it comes to making allies for the next cold war... I'd much rather have a president who knew what the hell he was doing when it came to diplomacy and foreign policy. I'd much rather have a president who knew what the hell he was doing when it came to diplomacy and foreign policy. Well, when the left in America screams from day one how aweful the United States is, and the fact that the left in Europe detests the United States, and most media outlets shaping opinions are leftist, then what do you expect public opinion in those socialist countries to be? Whatever policy we took would have been wrong to you liberals but especially when the big bad bully has to take action you girls scream bloody murder. That is the nature of liberals. But real frankly, I could give a rats ass what France thinks of us. Or Russia. They were not our allies before Iraq, and they wont be until they need us. And I hope we dont bail their sorry asses out again. We gave Saddam years and years to comply. Every UN resolution put before him he broke. Every agreement he made, he broke. He kicked our inspectors out of Iraq and obstructed them at every turn. He bribed several members of the UN so he thought he was acting with immunity. Clinton was to weak to do anything. Bush warned Saddam that the rules changed with 9/11. he still obstructed us, and he paid the price. If that is wrong, then we will NEVER BE RIGHT IN THE EYES OF THE LIBERALS. I can see them sitting on the side lines, particularly the French and the Swiss, but I honestly can't see them joining forces with our enemies. Well... as we are seeing with Iraq, there are degrees of cooperation with our allies, and a lot of it is driven by public opinion. Public opinion of the US is low because we thumbed our nose at diplomacy and went in with guns blazing, while basically calling the rest of the UN chickensh:t that they wouldn't act with great urgency on our trumped up pile of lies. While that may have satisfied Bush (and H8Tank)'s ego... it didn't do much for our image in the world. Bush doesn't play well with others. Not in government, not around the world. P.S. Sorry, Spain... I didn't read your "the lefties" rant. I assume it's the usual?
