Perchoutofwater
The pure libertarian in me says this is awful. The practical rational part of me says this is probably in the country's best interest, as there are many people who have a problem with gambling and who can not afford to be gambling. If banning this form of gambling keeps a 100,000 of off the government dole then it might be worth it. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with it, but I can see where it is coming form. Hugh 0ne
Here's the problem: This is good: who want to keep gambling out of easy reach of minors. This is not: legislation that would attempt to ban Internet gambling I mean, why not figger out a way to make it less accessible to minors, like, let's say, parenting for example. Or wait, would that be too much trouble? I just don't get it. The pussification of America continues. Since people are lazy worthless sh*tbags that can't raise their own children properly, they need to make laws and ban anything and everything that could be seen as a potential threat/problem/inconvenience. Weak.

Big Country
They've been talking about banning online poker for many years now.... it won't happen. If the gubment was smart, they would look at legalizing/regulating it somehow so they get their cut which is all they really want. A typical you aren't going to beat them so may as well join them situation

The libertarian in me thinks it is ridiculous and the American in me says you can't legislate morality/behavior, etc. and this is encroaching too much on our freedoms. Make something illegal because a small percentage of the population have a problem with gambling? Give me a break. Ban Vegas then. What is next?...cigarettes and booze like Ursa pointed out? Weak. dmarc117
if anything do what they do in missouri.....went to watch a hoops game in stlouis and went on one of the boats. they make you sign a bunch of crap and then you get a card. every time you sit down to play they take this card and monitor your play. you are capped at 200 loss i think, then you cant play for an hour. this is as far as i would go in limiting gambling. Seattle LawDawg
Well, online poker has been illegal in WA state for a few months now and I know no one that has stopped playing. There's a lot of bark here in an effort to get a piece of the pie but the effort required to enforce such laws would be restrictive. Its very easy to get a European IP proxy. And the Dems did it to WA State. Shoot em all I say.

skins
You do realize that they are trying to include fantasy sports in that bill... From the Republican bill in the House (they exclude fantasy sports except for the bolded portion, which brings all of our leagues under the law): (E) does not include-- ...... (viii) any participation in a fantasy or simulation sports game, an educational game, or a contest, that-- (I) is not dependent solely on the outcome of any single sporting event or nonparticipant's singular individual performance in any single sporting event; (II) has an outcome that reflects the relative knowledge of the participants, or their skill at physical reaction or physical manipulation (but not chance), and, in the case of a fantasy or simulation sports game, has an outcome that is determined predominantly by accumulated statistical results of sporting events, including any nonparticipant's individual performances in such sporting events; and (III) offers a prize or award to a participant that is established in advance of the game or contest and is not determined by the number of participants or the amount of any fees paid by those participants.
