When we first were married, we planned on having kids. 3 horrible miscarriges and 10 years later, we pretty much accepted the fact that it may not happen, but if it does, we'll go with the two-name thing.

Sorry to hear that. :D

Hey Chiefjay, you got something weird in your mouth, looks like a foot. :D

I've always wondered this (maybe a question for the lawyers of the Huddle)...

When a couple has a kid, can they name him/her anything?

Say the father's name is John Smith and the mom's name is Jane Johnson-Smith. Can they name their kid N'fungo Mwapona Kweise Jackson?

Try this one on for size, a friend of my wifes changed his name to his wifes name. What a Rosie O'Donnell.

I have a friend who got married, and they are thinking of merging their names.

So, lets say his last name is Johnson, and hers is Updike...

They'd both change to be the Johndikes.

Ghey. Only if I used their real names... you'd see it's even gayer.

My wife would not be my wife if she didn't take my name. I can see some rare cases where a hyphinated name could be benificial, but still, my wife wouldn't do that. She has too much respect for me and the marriage tradition.

What the hell do I care what another person does with thier own name? Don't see why that principle should change if the person in question happens to be my wife. It ain't like she becomes my property.

Sure, I *wanted* my wife to take my last name. But it was ultimately *her* name, so I let her make the call. (She hypenated, FYI).

Now, where I drew the line was when it came to the names of our kids. They took my name, despite the Mrs.' intital attemps to give them hyphenated last names. That was non-negotiable for me and she choose her battles wisely.

Yes, legal precedent has been established that parents can name their children whatever they want, within reason.

My wife kept her name, which was fine with me, since I married because I love her as a person.

If I'd married merely to swing my big dick around I'd probably feel differently.

My wife kept her last name too. Our daughter has my last name and a middle name that ties her to my wife's family (same middle name as mother in law). What's the big deal. You conservatives really need to stop living in 1982 like Zeke. I can see how you're so easily distracted by the Republicans with fake issues like flag burning now. :D

Don't knock the dick-swinging thing until you've tried it.

I didn't say I don't swing my big dick around, just that it wasn't the primary reason for me to marry.
