after I just updated to their newest version?

all windows and programs were running so slow that i had to do a system restore and now things are flying again BUT I am getting the following error

ERROR

Could not locate valid definitions file. Please go to the Program Options page and click "Update

Definitions" to download a definitions file.

but when i go to that page and try to update it gives me the same exact error...

anyone have any ideas...

why the update slowed my machine down?(512k RAM)

why the file wont update?

You know, that is odd. I just updated my SpySweeper as well and now I noticed my computer kind of cycles on my Internet Explorer...??? And my computer is very clean and I don't have unnecessary processes running in the background or on bootup.

Same here, and a friend of mine d/l'd it on my advice and her system (256 Ram though) was super slow. I just sent a complaint into their support line. I'll let y'all know if anything comes of it.

Here's the reply I got from Webroot:

Hello,

Please uninstall and reinstall the software to correct this error.

If you need a new download, you can get one by going to https://secure.webroot.com/register/softwareupdates.asp and filling out the form.

:D Typical!! :D

I think Ursa is right. Their will be a 5.x upgrade coming soon.

FWIW....

Under 'Sweep' there is a slider 'CPU conservation vs seep speed' By default it's all the way to the right, I dropped it down all the way to the left. It's helped. It seems when it's to the right it interupts the system more frequently & takes 50-70% of the available resources w/ it! Why do these freakin' companies f' up good s/w. :D

Edit for:

More info!

How common are Keyloggers and IIRC, doesn't Norton's stop them? If so, turning it off in SS should not hurt? Correct?? URSA..............???????????????/

To be honest, you might want to abandon this program and replace it with something else, per the postings in the link. It looks like they've over-engineered this version.

Keyloggers are very common and Norton Internet Security should stop them. Pest Patrol also includes a keylogger detector.

TY. I just might dump it. I have PP, but not sure if it's current. This is actually good timing, as my sub date is 6 weeks away.
