Ursa Majoris
It's on TNT right now. The Thing. I love this movie. Presumably the one with the amazing effects, as opposed to the one with James Arness.
Puddy
The original Nightmare on Elm Street would be my favorite. Not too big on horror flicks however.
TDFFFreak
It's on TNT right now. The Thing. I love this movie. Great flick. i always liked Polterguiest-- I know it's soft horror, but it was scary at the time I saw it. Chavez
Honorable mentions: Audition - doesn't seem much like a horror movie until much bad wrongness happens onscreen Return of the Living Dead - great mix of horror and humor, kickass soundtrack as well Near Dark - great twist on the whole modern vampire idea The Howling - doesn't get as much love as its contemporary An American Werewolf in London, but pretty solid B-film effort by Joe Dante Theeee winnah: Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn - awesome mix of horror, one-liners, and a tour de force performance by Bruce Campbell
AtomicCEO
Audition - doesn't seem much like a horror movie until much bad wrongness happens onscreen I couldn't even imagine watching that movie. Yeesh. Disturb-o-rama. I always liked the mythology of the first 3 Hellraisers. I thought Freddy was a fantastic villain. But nothing in my whole life got to me like The Ring did. That movie just had something. It was really well done.

I watched that again a couple weeks ago. It was just as spooky as the first time around. The TV scene just makes you shudder......

Pope Flick
Let's not gorget Jaws (the first film I remember having scary scenes set in daylight) or Alien, which really changed the way horror films were made after the chest burster sequence. Chavez
Let's not gorget Jaws (the first film I remember having scary scenes set in daylight) or Alien, which really changed the way horror films were made after the chest burster sequence. Alien is absolutely great but I prefer the first sequel - though Aliens might arguably be more of a "sf action movie" than an "sf horror movie"
cliaz
The Howling - doesn't get as much love as its contemporary An American Werewolf in London, but pretty solid B-film effort by Joe Dante The best werewolves ever. They looked just like a werewolf should look.
Chavez
The best werewolves ever. They looked just like a werewolf should look. If you like werewolf movies, check out Dog Soldiers - sort of like Aliens but set in the English countryside with lycanthropes. Ginger Snaps is also pretty good. cre8tiff
The best werewolves ever. They looked just like a werewolf should look. Naw, thier ears are too long they look like vampiric kangaroos. I have to say I am a fan of American Werewolf in London, even after they ruined it with that piece of crap follow-up. But then again so did the Howling producers... But the BEST werewolf I have seen to date has to be the one from "Bad Moon" I will post a link when I find it. Meanwhile, take a look at Bob Burn's basement! Edited July 16, 2006 by cre8tiff
Chavez
But the BEST werewolf I have seen to date has to be the one from "Bad Moon" I will post a link when I find it. Good god, that movie was heinous. I liked BOTH AAWiL and The Howling, and both did a great job mixing humor in with everything, I think The Howling threw a little bit of satire in there that put it over the top for me. cre8tiff
Good god, that movie was heinous. I HATED the movie. I LOVED the werewolf design.Just like I really like AWiL, but the final design of the werewolf left me flat. Put Bad Moon's werewofl in AWiL (or the Howling for that matter)...ohhh yeah. Clubfoothead
Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn - awesome mix of horror, one-liners, and a tour de force performance by Bruce Campbell The scene where his hand turns on him or the rape by tree. Classics and my favorite as well. Phantasm Excellent movie and the coolest car ever. I'd also list Nightmare on Elm Street #1 and American Werewolf in London. Savage Beatings
If Army of Darkness can be considered a horror flick then that's it for sure... but realistically it is a comedy IMHO. Otherwise I like a good vampire movie every now and then... some good ones out there like Blade and Underworld, etc.
pork chop express
the Shining got me a little and so did Friday 13th. I was a kid when I saw those for the first time and they kind of freaked me out. Actually, the first time I saw Creepshow, I lost it with the gorilla under the stairs.....I know it is nothing, but to a 8 yr old kid...it freaked me out. Didn't want to go into the basement for a while.
The Misfit
Honorable mentions: Audition - doesn't seem much like a horror movie until much bad wrongness happens onscreen Not really a fan of the genre, but I still have the occassional nightmare of the pretty Japanese girl next store suddenly doing some rather horrible things to me and enjoying every second of it. Another movie I loved that probably doesn't seem much like a horror movie is "Shadow of a Vampire." Willem Dafoe gives an amazing performance that shoulda won the Oscar that year. Most people who love horror that I've told to watch it seem to hate it, though. Oh, and for some reason, I really like Rob Zombie's two movies. The Devil's Rejects I found particularly entertaining. It made "Freebird" a song I can tolerate again, as long as those images pop into my head whenever I hear it.

Too f'd up, all over the place. But I guess that is what Zombie intended. I've heard Reject's is better and might give it a shot. Now the Saw franchise I like. Looking fwd to III in the fall.
