When you vote for incompetence and corruption, you get exactly what you wanted.

Did anyone really expect anything different when they pulled the Bush/Cheney lever? Seriously? Terrible economic policy mixed with terrible foreign policy mixed withy complete secrecy and blatant lying to the public. A lump of turd rolls downhill. Duh.

Eventually the U.S. will become Communist. Once that happens it's all over. I give it another 50 years or so.

When those that recieve more from the government that they give out number those that give more than they receive, our government will crumble, and anarchy will reign supreme. It is not as far off as some people think.

I also have a Shars .52 that hasn't been fired in the last 50 years or so. If you can reload the damned thing, it will put a hole in something.

No, we're not beginning to crumble as a civilization - as long as most of us retain our senses and refuse to be diverted by the modern equivalent of bread and circuses placed in front of us.

But in terms of the nation state, yes, it could happen and it absolutely will. Human history has been a progression through stages of organizations, from families through clans, through tribes, through cities and so on. We are at the stage of the nation state right now but the signs are already in place that this also will pass to something new. The Internet, multi-national trade agreements e.g. the EU and multi-national conglomerates already transcend traditional national borders, as does the rise of Islam.

Nope - wealth redistribution has typically preceded a Dark Age when civilizations have been overwhelmed by barbarians. There will always be classes of wealth in a successful society of any size.

That was kind of my point. The redistribution of wealth is going to end up sending us back into a dark age.

Hmm, the rise of corporation-states? Interesting.

Or the gradual development of one or a few superstates. We live in one, when you think about it.

It would be a logical progression but I wouldn't expect it any time soon. Still, some of the things happening right now would point in that eventual direction.
