wiegie
So, we are getting hammered by a thunderstorm right now (radar--we live just SE of Grand Rapids) and now my wife just noticed firetrucks outside the apartment building across from us. I don't know what is going on, but this is about as exciting as it gets in Grand Rapids. Developing...

Jimmy Neutron
Thunderstorms are one of my favorite things about summer. Grand Rapids sounds a lot like my neck of the woods. It's embarassing, but fire trucks and ambulances always draw a crowd in my neighborhood. Life flight landed in a parking lot a block east of us a few weeks ago and it was all people could talk about for a week.

Egret
We got hit by the storm. It blew our picnic table off of our deck as well as a few chairs. While I was picking up the metal chairs and putting them in the garage, I realized lightning was striking all around me. I'm an idiot. My classroom is right next door to the police department and fire department. It's hard to compete with fire trucks and police cars when there sirens are blazin'. There's also a bus stop there too. Fun people are always getting on the bus. Good times.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Simpson quotes from "Homer at the Bat": "It all started last year during a terrible thunderstorm, when I locked myself out of the house. Sheltering myself with a large piece of sheet metal, I ran for cover under the tallest tree I could find!"
Perchoutofwater
You want to know exciting, how about this: Roughly 12 years ago, my last semester in college. Me and the wife lived in this run down sh!t hole of an appartment. The water had so much chlorine in it, it you couldn't drink it. The walls were so poorly insulated and the HVAC system so in adequate that in the summer you couldn't keep it below 85 and in the winter you couldn't keep it above 60. We was po, living off a first year teacher's salary at state base. Anyway I was commuting about 60 miles and was leaving at 6:15 one morning. I open the door only to be shoved back in my appartment by a guy in a bullet proof vest. The DEA was busting the dealer that lived directly below us. In all there were about 10 DEA agents, and 10 local PD officers in the parking lot. Talk about exciting, I could hear it all, as they rushed his appartment. I was glad the guy got busted, the knocks on his window every night were disturbing, as was the time he nearly burnt the appartment down.
