Michael Bennett

Anyone hear of anything lately with Bennett? I heard trade talks earlier about possibly going to Houston. Has the talk died down a bit? Anyone know of anything with him?

More recent speculation I can recall is that the Rams were interested in him backing up Action Jackson.

problem is that the Saints were waiting because McAllister was still healing and Bush was not in camp yet so they needed Bennett to be the #1 back for drills. They may not get rid of him until well into training camp.

Around The NFL: For now, Saints hold on to insurance at running back

Compiled By Bill Coats

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

07/16/2006

Despite some reports to the contrary, the Saints seemingly aren't so eager to trade speedy running back Michael Bennett - at least, not yet.

The theory is that Bennett, a free-agent signee in the offseason after rushing for 3,174 in five years with the Vikings, was made expendable when New Orleans grabbed USC's Reggie Bush in the first round of the draft.

But with Bush unsigned and veteran Deuce McAllister still rehabbing after tearing a knee ligament last year, the Saints are lying low. "We've had several teams express an interest," general manager Mickey Loomis said. "All have made offers, but not good enough yet."

The Rams apparently are among Bennett's suitors, as they seek a backup for Steven Jackson while the status of veteran Marshall Faulk, still gimpy after offseason surgery on both knees, remains uncertain.

IF and I say again, IF Bush holds out or loses playing time due to contract talks (as has been covered in the 4 page post on the subject) and IF Deuce lingers slowly....THEN the speedy Micahel Bennett could be a huge asset and the NO FO could look very, very, very, very smart.....

But it is only the end of July....
