wildcat2334
Unreal, my favorit local sports team, the only one to bring our city a title back in '79- moving to Oklahoma City?? how is this even possible?? Just as we are starting to become a major, varsity level city, we are facing the prospect of losing our NBA franchise?? I am f ing pissed. We have arguably the 2 nicest stadiums in the NFL & MLB- we can't get this done?? so much money here in Seattle it is a joke, and now this?? You gotta have all 3 sports IMO, otherwise your a JV town. Howard Shultz blows- I am done drinking his product- boycott Starbucks Sonics Sold To OKCity Group

Big John
What is the Hornets status? They played most of their home games on OKC. Were thay able to move back to New Orleans? That would have an impact on this story.
wildcat2334
Yeah, it looks like they could move to OKC in 2007-2008 at the earliest, which would likely give NO time to get it all together for the Hornets. I still refuse to believe this
Big Country
If you had lost $60 million over the last few years bacause of a deal between the city and the stadium, and the city was unwilling to renegotiate, would you not want to sell or move. Can't blame him for selling, but, the articles I read had no guarantees that the teams would be moved, but I wouldn't doubt it. As for New ORleans, I do belive they are able to go back to New Orleans full time now.
wildcat2334
Well, the losses are not entirely due to the lease- his ownership group stinks- blame to go around, believe me. As for NO- no, they aren't scheduled to be back in NO for good until 2007-2008 season, which sounds like pretty good timing for OKC............ Playing 35 games of their home schedule next year in OKC.

The City paid for a remodel of the facility 11 years ago, the arena was profitable up until 1999 (coinciding with the NBA player strike), and out of the blue a year ago they offer up a proposal to the city, and then the state, about tapping tax benefits for an arena remodel, with a nominal coverage of costs offered up by the team. Whatever $60 million lost over the last few years was made up with the $130 million profit made today. If the NBA wants to bail on the 13th largest media market in exchange for the 45th largest media market, knock themselves out.
Bonehand
Soooo, How long after the Sonics leave town will it take for Paul Allen to bring the Trailblazers to Seattle, thus consolidating his sports holdings in his home town, & returning Nate McMillan to our fair city? Dunno, but after that horsecrap news conference, I'll be lighting up a doob and rocking a Jail Blazers jersey with ROY on the back fairly soon methinks. Not only that, but I believe Allen tried to buy the Sonics from the Ackerleys in the first place, & couldn't get it done, & bought the Blazers instead. I would be willing to bet that in the end Poortland will be the losers in this deal.

That would blow for us all in the NW- Blazers are all Portland has, they WERE a model franchise, they have a brand new arena, albeit bankrupt or whatever- they should not go anywhere. Portland would be Spokane without the Blazers. I don't want the F ing blazers in my town-period. This blows NO & OKC having NBA teams, but not Seattle?? j.abe325
This is horrible news. Although I am a big NFL fan, my love for basketball is outweighs any sport. And I absolutely love the NBA despite what people think. I live in Washington State and have grown up with this team from birth. I love this franchise more than any other in the world. And it kills me to know they are moving away to FRICKIN Oklahoma of all places. The only thing Oklahoma is known for its the musical.
