After 5 weeks of class and 16 hours worth of exams, I have gotten my Six Sigma Black Belt certification. I guess now we'll see how useful it is. I think it has a few years of legs left, its one of the major Buzzwords in businesses today. I need to cash in before it fizzles out I guess.

I saw the author of this thread and the title and put two and two together...... :D

Congrats on your new cert! :D

Now you can officially run around with a clipboard, a measure and a stopwatch. :D

Yah, our instructor was a major geek, or "propellerhead" as he referred to himself. Actually, I went in thinking it was probably hooey, but it seems to actually have some use. Like I said, hopefully I can cash in while the buzz lasts. :D

What type of cert is it?

There are 5 (I think) levels of Six Sigma Certification...Yellow, Green, Brown, Black, and Master Black Belt. Usually Yellow, Green and Brown are reserved for supervisors and managers just so they know the basics and don't think the Black Belt is coming in trying some crazy voodoo on their operations.

To get the BB cert, I had to take 220 hours of classes, run and complete a project with verifiable financial results, and average 75% on 4 four hour exams (I averaged 87.5.) :D

Which means you have never bedded down a babe of your Avy's proportions, but congrats anyway and cash in

are those sixsigma guys like scientologists or mormons or what? :D

:D Good on Az. Actually, it was funny, my instructor made a Mormon joke my first week there and nobody got it but me. I giggled and he said "oh, do you know about the Mormons?" That turned into a two hour conversation over dinner. :D

w*t*f are you talking about?

It's high level Quality Control in a manufacturing environment. Atleast that's how it started at Motorolla I believe. Today it is branching out in all directions.

Edit for:

Opps.....Congrats Cyclone. I know a little about it and it aint easy! :D

My main client - a national bank and its retail/real estate advising arm - uses it. From what I've seen, it's hogwash. But in certain realms, it surely could be helpful (and help you get a better salary). So in that regard, congrats, Cyclone -- hope it helps you out in whatever way you were hoping! :D

As I said in a previous thread, it sort of seems to me that Six Sigma is something that smart MBA's made up to bilk money out of dumb MBA's.

Good job, Cyclones, take them for all their stupid asses are worth. :D

Oh make no mistake Wiege.....there will be as much taking as is possible. Of course at some point the dumb MBA's will have their day in the sun and then I'll be back on the street corner scalping tickets to Kentucky Basketball games :D

Actually, it was my employer's idea...they pictched it to me and paid for the training, travel, etc. All tolled, the cost of the course combined with expenses, plus the salary they actually paid me for the 5 weeks I was in the training, exceeded 35 grand. So I guess they think it's worth it. I guess if nothing else it buys me some job security :D

Cool, congrats! :D

I start a 3 day L6S class tomorrow - Lean Leader Training I think it's called.

If you truly master the Six Sigma methodology, you'll be valuable long after business buzz words change. Many American (and others) companies are extremely wasteful. Put those skillz to use and you'll be in good shape. :D
