samurai30
Excellent points above on Marinelli. However, WANTING to run and BEING ABLE to run are two different things. Marinelli wants to "pound da rock" and that will probably mean that Martz cannot just go away from the run as he is prone to do. This is a good thing for KJ. BUT... ...the Detroit D will have a big say in how much pounding of da rock this team gets to do. They may be in for a whole lotta passing in the 2nd half. If KJ is not involved in the passing game, he's only valuable for a half. I truely hope Marinelli has some control in this offense. Because if he lets Martz do what he wants, detroit will be in for a disaster, because detroit does not have the same level of talent like the rams. They have to run the ball more to keep the defense off the field and rested.
Doc Holliday
I don't think that Jones running is going to be the big factor on him improving fantasywise, I think that the dump off passes to him is what is gonna make him the better fantasy player this year. Goopster24
Good point, hes one of the few in the dreaded RBBC approach. Cal or shawn don't really scare me too much to take a lot of carries away from KJ...unless KJ really really stinks it up...but I highly doubt that...too much talent in there to make him a bust... Agree 100%. Kevin Jones, barring injury, should be a solid late second round draft choice and outperform his draft slot. Good points on that. It will be interesting to see how KJ runs after the catch. With some space to run, KJ can be pretty dangerous.
loyalboyd
He's very intresting player to watch this yr. I seen him fall as low as the 3rd round. That was true value to me.

This is the only thing that worries me. he (Jones)does not seem to run fluently when going out to catch the ball. he needs to be careful because Calhoun is excellent at that and if Jones shows a weakness there he will open things up for Calhoun to become the 3rd down back and even more depending on how Jones runs the ball. I would definately handcuff myself with Calhoun if at all possible.

He's a pure athlete....top notch running back out of high school and college. I just don't get why he would be so awkward catching a pass. But yes...as a KJ owner....I'm looking to pick up Calhoun too....very very late though
piratesownninjas
Yeah..very true...I haven't seen much of KJ catching and running. But how hard can that be? He's a pure athlete....top notch running back out of high school and college. I just don't get why he would be so awkward catching a pass. He's never been asked to catch the ball... From High School through the NFL. Reports from OTA's and what not say that he's excelled in the pass catching area.... (Rotoworld) Kevin Jones reportedly excelled in the pass game during minicamps. Impact: The Lions are expected to use Jones similarly to how Mike Martz used Marshall Faulk in St. Louis, as an every-down back. Jones has been underrated in pre-training camp fantasy drafts. Swiss Cheezhead
Is it just me, or does this sound like another round of the William Green experience? Great second half of his rookie season then bust the next year with relatively high expectations the following year. I'm not saying he won't be better this year with the new coaching staff, but like others have suggested, Martz isn't really a great coach for RBs. I know Faulk was great from '99 to '01 with Martz, but Jones is definitely no Faulk. You're absolutely right -- Jones isn't Marshall Faulk. So, accordingly, we can expect that Jones WON'T break the all-time single-season yards-from-scrimmage record. Also, he probably won't score 20+ TDs two years in a row. So what? Even if the difference between Jones and Faulk is 500 total yards and 8 TDs, Jones will still be a top fantasy RB.

I hope so...but apparently "The huddle" doesn't appear to be as enthusiastic as us ranking him behind Julius, Fast Willie, Chester Taylor, and Reuben Droughns. I guess they are in the "wait and see" approach based on last year. From reading sites and mags....most sites tend to agree Kevin Jones won't do that well.....ranking him pretty low...yet..when I see mock drafts....he gets picked up in the second round. Go figure...
