montster
Long story short - got a line on two tickets, seller wants to use eBay squaretrade, says he need my name and address and eBay screen name to complete the deal. Is this kosher? i've used ebay but have never heard of square trade. is this a local transaction? because if you're sending him money via paypal and he's mailing you the tickets, he'll have your address, name and ebay screen name anyway via paypal. here's all i found on square trade, on ebay's site The SquareTrade Seal is one way for sellers to show bidders that they are committed to high selling standards and have had their identity verified by a third party. To retain a SquareTrade Seal a seller must: * Agree to participate in SquareTrade's Dispute Resolution should a problem arise * Have their identity verified by SquareTrade * Commit to SquareTrade's standards for online selling If for some reason you need to file a case with SquareTrade, you can be assured that the seller will respond. SquareTrade also guarantees all listings with a verified SquareTrade Seal for up to $250.00 against fraud.
Chavez
These tickets for $110 are a GREAT deal (part of the reason I'm suspicious - he originally offered them for $150 but dropped to $110 with no fuss - and these have been getting sold for upwards of $300), and I'm not sure if a square trade listing would remain private - in other words, some schmoe could come in and grab them out from under me. Without my SS or credit card #s, I doubt I'd be in much danger of identity theft, but something is setting off my spider-sense here. EDIT: also, he should've been able to get my screen name off the bidding for other tickets for this show. This just seems sorta odd to me, but I'm very unfamiliar with eBay. Lots of email scams going about concerning eBay at the moment. I'm assuming account details are wanted so that people can commit eBay fraud. Gotta say that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
loaf
I've heard of square trade but never used it. it is a system for buying tickets on the up and up. I'd have no worries....
Chavez
I've heard of square trade but never used it. it is a system for buying tickets on the up and up. I'd have no worries.... Again, I'm sending him the info through email so the seller can set things up onsite. And it isn't really super-sensitive info (name, addy, screen name). I guess the quick drop of the price sort of sent up a red flag for me.
Goopster24
I remember hearing about SquareTrade a while back because of some scams that were going on because people were faking to be them: Link Check the feedback of the person. If low, I would stay away.
Goopster24
I have actually been trying to buy some concert tickets for a show later this week. One thing you need to make sure: If you are emailing the person back and forth and you agree on a deal and the person just cancels the auction and it doesn't say something like "Seller ends auction early to sell to highest bidder," eBay will not protect it. So be careful.
