cre8tiff
The media only publishes the most extreme cases. There are hundreds of stories like this in the foster care system. My wife and I have rescued two thus far. Wish more people would get involved. Edited July 23, 2006 by cre8tiff
Egret
Yup. I've taught a few students who had to go through similar circumstances. Years and years of abuse don't get magically cured once they're rescued. It's a hard road back to any sense of normalcy. I read this book awhile back. The author turned it into a series that covers his life in foster care and young adulthood.

My adopted son (who has been with us 2 years) freaked out yesterday when we were placed under a boil order. He needed to know exactly howwe were going to get water, when we were going to boil it, and how long we could keep the boiled water. He would not relax until we told him everything and even then he was still VERY concerned. You just don't f*ck with a kids sense of availability of food and water without causing massive emotional damage.

I haven't, because when I read that kind of stuff I get apoplectic with rage and want to kill someone.
