its funny how everytime islam is criticized for being outrageous and deadly, muslims react with outrage and death threats......

Perhaps they have a better sense of irony than we give them credit for. :D

If we could get the followers of Islam and Christians to kill each other off, there would be a lot more elbow room for the rest of us.

Unfortunately, our Christian president and the Pakistanians have nukes.

And India is full of about 1 billion Hindus; China has about 1 billion atheists. Wouldn't create as much room as you think.

I haven't seen the context at all, but did they miss the fact that the Pope was quoting someone else?

A lot of the press in the Islamic states is censored/altered. Many of the people have heard that the Pope said something to the effect that Islam is bad. So, since there's no other word out, that's what they'll believe.

That's a very good point.

Imagine if all the clerics in the Muslim world got together and had a meeting and put together a completely defaming statement about the pope. Do you think all the catholics would hold demonstrations and throw a hissy?

:D:D:lol:

They seem to get pretty upset about stuff like the idea of evolution.

uh, no they don't

(unless you somehow think Pope John Paul II was pretty upset when he made the comment that evolution is more than just a hypothesis)

Let's look at the divorce rate (the Catholic Church is EXTREMELY anti-divorce), birth control (a large % of American Catholics use something a bit more consistent than the rhythm method), and the initial support for the war in Iraq (the bulk of the US populace was pro; Pope John Paul denounced it from the get go) - most US Catholics only listen to the Pope when it doesn't interfere with what they already believe.

As if that is news. :D

My take on this...

:D While making a point about faith and compulsion, how dare you quote someone that wrote something about us hundreds of years ago, that we don't want to admit might possibly be true about us today!

This might infer that there has not been any progress in the last 700 years :D

Catholics and their religion are a complete sham and a farce. Its all for show. No birth control? Burning candles? Heck, most of them know very little about the bible but they know alot about their church dogma. How any rational human being could be part of this absolutely corrupt and evil organization is beyond me. Unless they were brainwashed from an early age by their parents. This "church" is such an obvious scam that I cant believe people still go to it, well except for ignorant beaners who dont know any better.

Here we are in 2006 and we're gearing up for a worldwide clash between two groups of people that believe in two slightly different invisible men in the sky.

No better than a troop of monkeys.

I agree Ursa. The only difference is that only one side of this conflict is actively pushing the physical clash! Negotiate in your face while attacking from you flank is standard strategy. Their word means nothing because we are not Muslim, and lying to a non-believer is not considered lying or dishonerable.

The Pope did not realize how stupid it would be to take a stand and allow the focus to come on him as opposed to the political entities around the world. Whether he is or not for Christians, the Pope is the most prevelent figure/leader of the Christian world. The Muslin world can give a oh poopy about the different subtleties of the Christian faith. They now have their focal point of us against them in a purely religious context. Much of the rehtoric you hear from their religious leaders still revolves around "the Crusaders" :D . The Knights of Templar dominated that area for well over a century, maybe two, and it has never been forgotten. The Arabic language has a very awkward use of future tense and these people culturally very much live primarily in the past and barely in the present.

The Shaw of Iran, proclaimed that he would "drag his people kicking and screeming" into the 21st century. Well, we all know what happened from there. They are so entrenched inthe past, that moving forward in any area, socially or other, is difficult for their linguistic and theistic mind set. They are much more hung up on "what you did" rather than "what you will/can do", even if it happened centuries ago! :D I have had extensive training on the culture, language, religion and mind-set of these people and have had to deal with then a lot. As a Westerner, it is extremely frustrating. EVERYTHING is a yumping negotion! I am sure it is equally frustrating for them as well. Unfortunately, their frustration manifests itself as s feeling of superiority if you fail to conform to their manner of doing ANYTHING!

This is a war of religious fanatacism. The theocratic Muslims do not seperate their religion from their government and are actually politically dictated by their faith. They are driven by jihad in all conflicts. This is a scary world situation that we will get drawn into, willing or not and too many Americans don't seem to understand this.
