Who? :D

Just kiddin' but you get the point.

Houston has little value in terms of fantasy football. I don't see him getting many opportunities barring injury to Barlow and/or Blaylock. He didn't even dress in week 1. Whether it's that he sucks or just isn't getting the opportunity is a moot point from a fantasy football perspective. Bottom line is I don't see him adding any value - again, barring injury.

Why is Cedric Houston not getting a chance in NY? Does he just suck?

No, he doesnt suck, he just isnt a great dynamic back. He is a perfectly good backup RB who can give you fresh legs and move the pile a bit. He looked pretty good last week on his TD run. He also has been slow picking up blocking and the Jets are trying not to get Chad killed this season. Good strategy methinks.

In what I believe was the third preseaon game, Houston missed a block, and Pennington got railed. Since then, Houston has gotten little game time opportunity. I think it's hard to say how much he has or hasn't improved in his blocking, as he has gotten almost no playing time... last week, 2 carries, 10 yards and a TD when Barlow got shaken up. Houston was inactive the first two games, but in week 3 Blaylock took a seat instead.

I personally remain unconvinced that he isn't in fact better than Barlow. He is a bit faster, and seems to be at least as strong between the tackles. He can catch as well as Barlow also. His upside probably isn't real high... and I agree with this poster, he's a solid 20 carry back up RB, a guy who can fill in well and carry a game or two as a fill in pretty well, if need be. He does most things well, but doesn't excell in any one area. Sort of like Barlow....

Good info guys thanks. You're saying Cedric Houston doesn't block well. One of you said good things about Leon Washington. How well does Leo Washington block?

Not sure about his blocking but he adds a dimension to the game that no other back on the Jets can add so either he blocks well enough or they are usuing him situationally where they dont feel that the blocking is an issue (on the plays they utilize him).

Remember, if they intend to use him as a receiver out of the backfield, Askew has the primary backfield blocking responsibility and the play is generally a fast developing play. Im guessing if you see Washington in the game there is a play designed for him.

While there have been smallish RB's who have become feature backs like Dave Megget, they are few and far between. I wouldn't say Washington has no shot at becoming a feature RB, but the odds are very long against it. Like most rookie RB's (and Houston is only in his second year) the last thing they generally become proficient at is in pass blocking and picking up the blitz.... something Curtis Martin was one of the very best at. Barlow has more experience in the NFL, and his blocking has improved since he entered the league.... bad pass blocking was a rap on Barlow for a long time too. He still isn't great at it, but is adequate.

Washington though, is in fact very much like Megget. Short, elusive, VERY fast and hard to get a good hit on. Given the so far sub-par run blocking the Jets O line has showed, Washington may be best suited to run behind it of the RB's on the Jets' roster. The Jets RB lines up seven yards behind the LOS in Shottenhiemer's offense. That makes Washington's speed that much more important in getting to holes that the O line can't sustain for a long period of time. This has led to the speculation that Washington's touches could go way up against Indy tomorrow. Houston didn't hurt his chances of seeing an increase in playing time with his 5 yard TD run in which he ran over an LB to get itno the end zone. Unless his pass blocking has improved on the practice field, he will have a hard time stealing touches from Barlow, however.
