I've tried several different website that have sound (like Bang Cartoons) and can't hear anything. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? I'm a complete momo when it comes to things technology. Kid Cid
Yup, make sure that they weren't accidently muted. Also, check to see that your ears are working. It could be them and not the speakers.
'canes2004
Also, check to see that your ears are working. It could be them and not the speakers. Good info here. I once turned mine off on a Sat. morning while the Mrs. was rattling off things for me to do on a particular great college football day. About an hour or so later went into my office to watch Game Day and couldn't hear a thing. Freaked out for a sec. until I realized I forgot to hit the ignore switch in my brain. Duh. Besides the above, if you have a multiple speaker system, check all the connections.

MrTed46
What type of ears are you testing with? USB will not work in this test as they have preset drivers for them. you must use analog.

MrTed46
Assuming you have Windows XP Start - Control Panel (classical view) - Sound and Audio Devices: On the top part of that window (next to the speaker icon but below the tabs) It should say what type of sound device you have (eg, Sound Blaster). If it says none there is a problem with your hardware/drivers.

chester
Try this fix, it worked for me. I've been having trouble with my speakers and I didn't read your whole thing. Azazello1313
Try this fix, it worked for me. more than likely, buying new speakers will not solve his problem. it's far more likely 1) that his computer just got inadvertantly muted and he just has to go into the volume control to fix it, or 2) something's up with his sound card, which could possibly be fixed by fiddling with/reinstalling the drivers, or worst case by installing another sound card. the likelihood that the speakers themselves are the problem is way way way down the list here. rajncajn
**Warning Thread Hyjacking** Rajn did you build your monster PC yet? I'm looking at my monitor right now, but the PC is still in transit. So far I've gotten the case, PSU, DVD burner, keyboard, printer & monitor, but all the internals were ordered 5-7 days free shipping(weekends excluded). Tomorrow will be the 6th day and I'm already going . BTW, the monitor is awesome...not one dead pixel to be found!
