detlef
Funny thing brought me back to the huddle. After I read the story about the OU replay debaucle, I knew of only one place to watch the fur fly...The Huddle. Of course I wasn't let down, and now I'm bloody drawn back in! Just when I thought I was out... At any rate, it's nice to see a lot of the same names pulling the same crap. It reminds me of how many shapes a community can take. At any rate, Jujube has been going well. Like any quasi-artistic endeavor, we've got our fans and our detractors. Fortunately, it seems so far, the former seems to outweigh the latter. All in all, we're making it which at this point is something to be happy about. I've also been able to attack my pre-opening debt and do some expansion faster than I would have expected, which is also good. Here's the review from the local paper as well as some less "authorized reviews". You don't have to look all that hard to find a hater or two but what the hell. http://www.newsobserver.com/1132/story/451035.html http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/32035...e=&query=jujube http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/31402...e=&query=jujube
Controller
The reviews sound very positive - hope jujube continues to thrive. However, this thread is making me hungry....
Savage Beatings
Welcome back detlef! Hope to see some of your expertise in the Food and Beverage Forum. It was a fun off-season to be sure. The sanctioned Huddle Fights quickly devolved into lame but real PM threats. H8Tank took a non-voluntary hiatus for a while. Some newbie tools have come and gone, but the same old gang is still around to entertain and dull your wits! untateve
My brother is in the process of moving to North Carolina (or perhaps right on the border in S Carolina (he's working in Charlotte). Once he's settled in, I'll certainly be there for long weekends, etc. I may have to visit your dining establishment.

Wish I'd known you were in Chapel Hill.....I was in Raleigh for a graduation in June. We could have stopped on the way back. Great to see you back.....if only a little here and there. detlef
Congrats, Detlef! What's the status of ICON? Just curious... I might have mentioned before, but we were unable to use that name and ended up calling it Bin 54 (it's on hwy 54 whatever, we had a hell of a time naming it). At anyrate, they're doing OK. They do turn out a great plate of food, but have certainly got the reputation for being extremely expensive (which they are). Mind you, I'd rather spend a few more dollars than at, say Sullivans and be totally blown away rather than iritated at a number of things (like I always tend to be at a place like Sullivans). I say "they" because I basically traded in my shares in order to take a significant majority stake at Jujube and just focus my efforts there. Turns out to be perhaps the best choice I could have made. Of the three places I had a stake in, Jujube is the only one that's been cash positive. detlef
Welcome back. I think one of us still owes the other a dozen donuts... You know, I actually went back and checked our PMs but barely remember what the bet even was. I'd imagine it had to do with one of my "better FF through math" theories. Oh, BTW, this is my second year of no FF. Gotta say, watching football is a whole lot more fun now

I had heard through a mutual acquaintance that you had focused your efforts on Jujube. Is the cash flow issue at Bin 54 a covers issue, food cost? What's the story?
