AtomicCEO
ok so what are you calling a "colossal waste of tax dollars"? I dunno... threatening to catch someone "dead or alive" and then 5 years later he dies of illness several hundred miles from the nearest American troops? I'm saying that the colossol waste of tax dollars was not the effort, but the moronic methods. The methods that have been a complete failure. The ones that 5 years after 9/11 still have not caught the person responsible. Are you saying that the plan all along was to capture his dead body after he died of natural causes, and that we've spent the tax dollars wisely? wiegie
CEO, (assuming that he did die of typhus), that is a result of us going after him and it could turn out to be the best way that he could have died from a US perspective--I can think of no more ignominious type of death than one that was caused by drinking water tainted by feces. That is not the death of heroic martyrs. Edited September 23, 2006 by wiegie

That is not the death of heroic martyrs. You seriously don't think it would be more of a victory for the US for him to die at our hands than as the result of natural causes? I certainly would rather have the US capture or kill him. Preferrably 4-5 years ago. Do you think the terrorists fear our anti-terror policy? Is it effective if our enemies are living out their lives without fear of attack from us? Maybe you're joking, wieige... I don't know. Is it effective if our enemies are living out their lives without fear of attack from us? Maybe you're joking, wieige... I don't know. Dying because you are too scared to leave your cave to get a glass of clean water is not exactly dying of natural causes. He died drinking sh|t-water like a scared little biaatch. Sounds like the way he deserved to die. (Don't get me wrong--I do wish though that he had died 5 years ago and I think we f-cked up by not making it happen sooner, but if the US plays this right (of which I am doubtful given the acumen of the current administration) it could work in our favor much more than if OBL went down in a blaze of glory in a gun-battle.) (again, assuming all of this is true, of which I am still rather skeptical)
AtomicCEO
Well, then I guess we disagree. Letting him live for 5 years and die of disease without ever knowing where he was or getting our hands on him would be a massive failure to me for the administration that vowed to get him dead or alive. You know... unless they really meant it and they continue to try to hunt down his dead body. I wanted revenge. I wanted punishment. I wanted to strike fear into the terrorists with the swift might of the worlds best-funded military. Terrorists have nothing to fear now except tainted water. Jimmy Neutron
You seriously don't think it would be more of a victory for the US for him to die at our hands than as the result of natural causes? Killing him militarily would certainly have been a victory or sorts. I think Wiegie's point was that it is better if OBL died of typhoid than as a martyr because his martyrdom at our hands would only serve to futher excite the jihadists. I do think we're getting ahead of ourselves. This reprot came from an unsubstantiated intelligence report and we all know how accurate those can be.
