Matt Hughes UFC Fight History (his last 7 fights):

Result.. Opponent

Win..... Royce Gracie

Win..... Joe Riggs

Win..... Frank Trigg

Win..... Georges St. Pierre

Win..... Renato Verissimo

Loss... BJ Penn

Win..... Frank Trigg

This is going to be an awesome fight! :D

Since beating Matt Hughes, BJ Penn has continued to compete in other Fight Events (not associated with UFC) and also won matches against Renzo Gracie, and Rodrigo Gracie. While I believe Royce Gracie is one of the better fighters in the Gracie family, I'm pretty certain this could be one of the more competitive fights Hughes will have to compete in.

My Prediction: Hughes wins in the 4rd round (of 5 total Title rounds) by Technical Knock Out. :D

Hughes/Penn is gonna be an interesting fight. I think Hughe's previous loss to Penn was largely because he didn't take him seriously since he had moved up to the 170lb class from 155lb. Hughes is pretty focused, but Penn is an undeniable talent.

Pretty close on the prediction Grunt.

Any doubt that there will be a 3rd fight?

No doubt there will be a third fight. The next fight will be Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre; however, Hughes will more than likely dominate. I believe the only reason Pierre beat Penn during UFC 58 is due to Penn's lack of conditioning. Although, Penn is a much better fighter than Pierre.

Personally, I believe Penn is the only contender with enough talent to give Hughes a fight for his money. If Penn is in top shape for the 3rd fight he will win. The problem is that he has no desire to be in the best conditioning for a fight, which is why we saw him gas out in the 3rd round. He was completely dominating Hughes the first two rounds though.

BJ Penn reminds me of Royce Gracie during his prime. While Gracie would probably have beaten Penn in his prime, mainly due to Gracies amazing conditioning, Penn is about as close as it gets. The guy is an amazing fighter!

I can already see it: Hughes vs. Penn III :D:D:lol:

Very good analysis. The strict Jiu Jitsu guys were going nuts for 2 rounds last night. Hughes got schooled until the 3rd. That had to be part of his strategy going in though: Penn was going to gas long before the end of the fight. Penn did have his shot at the end of the 2nd but just couldn't finish off the triangle.

Word. Also, Penn has heavy hands. What was Hughes thinking trying to stand up and trade punches with Penn? That isn't his game. If Penn gets serious about conditioning, he will beat Hughes.

He had no other option. As he mentioned after somehow pulling off the win, Penn frustrated Hughes because of his ability to counter every shot Matt tried on BJ Penn. I'm actually pulling for Penn to win, if they fight again, but only if he stops being lazy and gets in amazing shape. He won't win if he isn't conditioned to go all 5 rounds.
