Just picked up Jones-Drew

Recommended Posts

I'm watching the game and the kid looks great. Worse still for the Taylor owners out there is that in a tight game, the Jags appear to have COMPLETE confidence in him, even leaving him in to block on obvious passing downs, and he just caught a touchdown pass!

Are you with me Taylor owners?

Any Taylor owner should own Maurice Drew for at least insurance purposes. But Drew has looked incredibly sharp and yet another RBBC is born...

in other news, I almost started Drew in one league... :D

Looking at New England and Atlanta, running the ball A LOT is looking like a mini-trend. I could see both Taylor and Jones-Drew having value if JAX runs the ball more this season. Jones-Drew seems to be a good receiver. I got him as a throw in as part of a trade where I shipped out Lundy and that is looking OK now.

Two reasons I didn't already own him

1 - 8-team league, so lots of starters on my roster, with Portis and McGahee probably my 1 and 2 backs

2 - I tend to only handcuff a guy with a PROVEN backup. Someone you have seen run the ball fairly extensively and that the team will plug in with no change to the offense. I'm not sure Jones-Drew fits that description.

At least, not until today...

Drafted him as Freddy's "handcuff". Just dropped him last Tuesday for Cotchery. :D

I drafted him and had to cut him for Buckhalter when Westbrook's injuries came out. I didn't realize at the draft that this guy is only 5'6" tall. They said there has never been an NFL starting RB that short. I know Taylor is likely to get hurt, but can Drew handle a full load at that size?

How tall is Marshall Faulk? 5'8" or so? That Drew cat looked good today, very, very tough to bring down.

Colts were having an unbelievable time tackling he little dude today. And not just on running plays. He looked great catching the ball as well as in the return game. If the Jags had a quarterback, instead of trying to hide Lefty's accuracy and touch problems, they probably would have won today.

I agree, I thought the game was Jacksonville's to lose - and they did. And Indy has a good-tackling defense but that guy has great balance.

As for the comments on College Football - No team at my college + no local team = very little interest in college football. I prefer the pro game.

I agree 100%, and have been saying it for years.

Wow. That sounds like nothin' but hatin'. :D

The only significant issue Leftwich has is staying healthy. Other than that, he's plenty accurate, he's got lots of moxie, and he's always had the attitude of a winner.

Did you watch the game? If you did, you saw how scared the Jags were to throw the ball today. All his receivers are 6'4" or taller, and all the Colts starting DB's are under 6'. And they were missing their best one, Bob Sanders. Leftwich had adequate protection today. He underthrew several passes, two of which were picked off, two more were dropped by the Colts. He has now thrown 1 TD in three games, to go with 4 picks. If the Jags had a QB today, they would have won.
