Perchoutofwater
Thomas Jones is averaging an abysmal 3.0 yards per carry, and Benson doesn't even get a touch. If you take away his long run of 17 yards, and he is averaged 2.18 ypc. Is Benson hurt? I know Benson hasn't been averaging any better, but Benson is one of those bigger backs, that wears on a defense that is going to need more than 10 rushes to be productive. What is the deal here. Yes I own Benson in an number of leagues, but in all but one of those I also own Jones.

Big Ernie McCracken
From what I've read, he's alienated himself from the coaching staff and most of his teammates.
kwolf68
From what I've read, he's alienated himself from the coaching staff and most of his teammates. Then post what you read please. Benson is not playing because he is NOT the starting running back. Maybe he should be, maybe not, but Benson hasn't distinguished himself yet and is especially poor blocking, which means he can't be on the field that much right now. mphtrilogy
Two years I supported Benson in allocating a draft pick to him. This week I plan to cut him and don't look back
BeeR
It's not news that Benson is doing a great job working on being the biggest bust this side of Blair Thomas and is a moron, but I'm also surprised he didn't get at least a few carries. Can anyone confirm whether he was just out because he sucks or there was something else going on?
Pope Flick
BigErnie - since I'm not a newbie I'd like to ask you foe a link, because what you said was what was being bandied about prior to the season's start but has since been publicly cleared up. I'd like to see a link backing up "what you read" that isn't 2 weeks old. Since I follow the team pretty closely my take is simply Lovie isn't going RBBC at the moment in part because the whole running game is off track. That's quite a surprise since the personnel is the same, except that the QB play is statistically prolly 300percent better than last year. My hunch for not seeing more of Benson is that it is the permanent benching of Jones when it happens, which won't happen at least until they lose. I do see it happening this year at some point though. They'll give him his chance.
Bill Swerski
Governor's mansion? Talking smack with Krause most likely. I imagine that he'll see more playing time soon. He was supposedly back near 100% last week.

If he is a stud in the making, why did he not get one touch in that game, even after Jones got bumped off his route on the Winfield interception
Big Ernie McCracken
Not only did Benson not get a touch, he didn't play a down on offense. Yeah, they live him lots in Chicago
DMD
I have been searching for the answer here why Benson was never used since the two initial games Lovie Smith used a very consistent 2:1 ratio in splitting their work and he has said over and over that he intended to use both of them in rotation this year. I half expect that Benson just screwed up in some way and it was a punishment because there just is no other thing I can think of that would cause them to change so dramatically. If the Bears were behind and forced to throw, then I could see more confidence in having Jones in the backfield to block or go out for a pass (Benson has no catches this year), but it doesn't appear that was what happened. Benson was the called starter until he injured his shoulder so it was understandable why the Bears went to using TJ to start the season. But now all that I can assume is that their are either punishing Benson for some reason or that the offensive scheme called for "packages" that Benson was not preferred in. In either case, the running game in CHI is a flop this year for really no apparent reason (it should be BETTER with a passing game to respect) and Jones is barely topping 3 yards per carry. Pretty much any back gained more YPC with the more they play in a game, so whatever the Bears are doing eludes me.

Randall
Now that the Bears are doing well they really need to re-establish the run imo. Lovee said during TC they could do it(run block) at anytime. I think they'll need to soon.

I read on the Tribune section quotes from Lovie Smith about that incident that indicated that matter was cleared laster that week. Running a search on that site doens't produce anything older than Sept 18, but I found this bit in a recetn article: With a veteran line that's healthy, it makes sense to assume the holes eventually will open for Thomas Jones once defenses begin adjusting to the Bears' downfield passing game. ... Speaking of Jones, the way he has sacrificed his body to thwart pass-rushers has played no small part in why Rex Grossman has been sacked only once in two games. And it's a big reason why Cedric Benson stays on the bench. … http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,1757148.story I think that makes a lot of sense in some part: TJ knows the blocking schemes MUCh better in part due to his experience, and they don't want to see Grossman injured again. I'm still waiting for the links to all of the articles you've read about Benson's repairing relationships with staff and team. You've produced nothin in that respect.
