I’ve changed the name of this article because you are not always going to want to trade for a player just to keep him. Well really it’s because the title I had sucked. So this sounds a wee bit better. Hope you’ve found these some what helpful to you all.

 

With out further delay here is week 3s bunch…

 

 

Players You Want to Have

 

Charlie Frye – QB Browns

Week 3 Stats

21/33 298 yards 1 touchdown 1 int

2 rushes for 6 yards 1 touchdown

 

Is anyone else as surprised and I am at the good play that Mr. Frye has had? In each of his games this year he has had 1 rushing touchdown. True he has a total of 7 turnover so far this season but he did look impressive in the 1st half against a ravens defense that has been stellar shutting out the buccs in week 1 and then holding the raiders to 6 points (which really isn’t that impressive but still.). Frye has proven that he has the must win mentality and if you waited for a QB in your draft and were stuck with a players like Culpepper then Frye would be a good trade/waiver wire pick for your team.

 

Check this little stat out over the 1st three weeks of the season in a standard scoring league Tom Brady has 44 points and Charlie has 49 points.

 

 

 

Eric Johnson – TE 49ers

Week 3 Stats

7 receptions 87 yards 1 touchdown

 

Verron Davis broke his right fibula in Sunday’s loss over the Eagles and in came Johnson to make a statement. As of right now it appears that Davis will miss the next four weeks which opens up a nice door for owners in a TE require league who have been hurting in this position. More than likely Johnson has been sitting on the waiver wire and will be a hot commodity for add/drops this week. Snake him up if you can and plug him into your line up as he plays Kansas City, Raiders and the Chargers then bye week before returning to face the bears at Chicago. You should be able to get thee solid weeks out of him or if you are good at TE you can use him as trade bait to try and solidify a position on your team that is thin.

 

 

J.P. Losman – QB Bills

Week 3 Stats

22/38 328 yards 1 touchdown 1 int

 

Though you can argue that Losman deserve just as much push for a trade for/waiver wire pick up as Frye understand that Losman has a pretty good running back helping him out. There for the game does not rest on his shoulders as much as it does with Frye. Frye will be forced to air things out since his ground game isn’t there but Losman will lean back and let McGahee help him. True a good running game can open up the passing attack which we can see as of this week with McGahee getting 150 yard rushing it opened things up for Losman to throw for 328 yards 1 touchdown and 1 int. Losman is a solid bye week filler and if he happens to have a few more good weeks then you have some good trade bait waiting for you on your bench.

 

 

 

Greg Jennings – WR Green Bay

Week 3 Stats

3 receptions 101 yards 1 touchdown

 

Jennings caught a 75 yard touchdown bomb in the 1st half of the Lions/Green Bay game and totaled a whopping 101 yards on the day. Though Jennings may become a new favorite target for Brett Favre just be cautious on how you use him. Jennings shouldn’t be use for anything other than a #3 fantasy Wr or trade bait for other teams that are hurting in the WR department. If you choose to trade for him do not let loose any RBs for him as a #3 flex RB has more value than a #3 flex WR.

 

 

 

 

Players You Want to Trade Away

 

Javon Walker – WR Broncos

Week 3 Stats

3 receptions for 130 yards 2 touchdowns

 

If you are stacked on Wide Receivers and not too high on Walker then now is the time to use his high value and trade him away. Remember that the two previous weeks that he had a combined 120 yards and zero touchdowns (that is a 60 yard average per game.) which would be fantastic for a #3 flex position but that isn’t what this article is about. Right now with the some teams on your league having WRs from Buccs, Ravens, Raiders and the Titans they could be in a position to have to trade off a lower tier RB or QB to get their hands on a high performing WR. Granted this is a gamble because maybe now Jake has found that sweet spot with Walker and we are looking at a new QB/WR tandem. But then again it is Jake.

 

 

Roscoe Parrish – WR Bills

Week 3 Stats

4 receptions for 104 yards 1 touchdown

 

Don’t fall into the trap that Parrish has laid for fantasy football owners this will not be a repeat performance. Or at least a weekly or bi-weekly performance. Though he is quick and elusive with tons of upside he is not steady contributor and in fantasy football steady is the key. If you have room on your bench pick him up off of the wire and try to see what you can get for him but don’t waste a spot there unless you are solid in all other areas. There should be plenty of owners on your league that are hurting for a WR and he could provide the flavor you need for a good combo multi-player trade you’ve been trying to work out.

Bo Scaife, Troupe has been a big disappointment and this kid is getting lots of looks.

 

David Tyree, Coach C doesn't put up with chit and if Burress doesn't get his act together, he will be sitting. Tyree played well and will warrent more time on the field.

 

Michael Robinson, could vulture some TD's from Gore .

I agree on Frye. I think he'll eventually bring the Browns back to respectability.

 

Losman is one of those football anomolies. Watching him yesterday, as a Jets fan, I was very comfortable with him having the ball in his hands. It was evident early on that he would have a big day statistically, but you just knew that he would scew up in a big spot. And, again as a Jets fan, I just TRUSTED Losman to make the big mistake in the big spot. You just got the feeling that the guy would do what it took to lose the game. I can't see him being successful as an NFL quarterback. BUT, he'll probably put up decent fantasy numbers.

 

Parrish - the Jets have a HUGH problem with those little jitterbug-type players. That was truly a career day. Years from now, he'll look back and tell his grandchildren (both legitimite and illegitimate), about his one great day as an NFL receiver.

What about Kitna? True, his outburst was against Green Bay (and they lost the game) but this offense could be worth taking a risk on at this point. I like Kitna's upside more than, say, Losman's. Kitna's schedule is littered with nice matchups

I also disagree about Walker. I only have him in one league (got him at a good value), and I didn't expect a great start from him. His good game on Sunday was an early surprise.

 

Three things will happen with Walker as the season goes on:

 

1. He'll continue to feel more comfortable on his knee.

2. He'll continue to become more familiar with the new playbook.

3. He'll continue to develop a better rapport with Plummer.

 

Obviously, none of those three things hurts his value at all. Add in the fact that, with Rod Smith concussed, Walker is basically the ONLY real passing threat on the team, and you get a player on the rise.

If Javon has a weakness, aside from the obvious risk of injury, it's mental mistakes.

 

 

 

That and the fact that he has Jake Plummer throwing to him. Say what you will about Walkers natural talent and all but the fact remains if you do not have a good QB throwing the ball, even Marvin Harrison will look like poo. Let’s put it this way so far this season Plummer has gone:

 

13/26 138 yards 0 tds 3 ints

16/30 173 yards 0 tds 1 int

15/30 256 yards 2 tds 0 ints

 

Do you all see a pattern developing here?

 

What I am seeing here is what I like to call SSFPS or Short Sighted Fantasy Player Syndrome. What that means is an owner owns a player and refuses to see any negative about the player because he hopes and prays so hard that the performance the player just had/will have or is hyped to have will be true.

 

Case in point see Wali Lundy, Mike Bell, Culpepper, Brooks, Moss, Jordan so on and so forth.

 

Go back over the threads and read some of the searches that come up with those names.

 

Javon has had one good game, one fair game and one bleh game. Use his high value if you have other WRs on your team and get some holes filled.

 

If you are banking that Walker will hit 1300+ yards and more than 9 touchdowns you are really hoping against hope.

 

Again this is all in my opinion so take it for what it is worth.

I hope you are right about Frye. I dropped Warner-can't afford him getting pulled in a bad game- and I like Frye getting rushing TD's, so he gets the cheap 6 points. He is against Oakland this weekend, a half way decent D, but if Frye can score on Balt. I'm optomistic. I started out the year with Culpepper and Warner and now have Grossman and Frye.

 

I also picked picked up Edwards-maybe a good move. In another league I have Winslow. It strange in four leagues this year I am heavy in Chicago, San Francisco, and Cleveland players. Something I would have never predicted at the beginning of the season.

 

League #1 Frye, Edwards, De Clark, Grossman, Bryant, Gore

 

League #2 Edwards, E. Johnson, A. Smith, Gore

 

League # 3 Grossman, Berrian, E. Johnson, Gore

 

League #4 Grossman, Winslow, A. Bryant, Gore

 

I picked up Eric Johnson in two leagues today. He is a good TE, just injury prone, and or with a bad QB. I think he will be better than V. Davis, (until V. Davis gets some experience), and a good guy to ride with until he gets injured again. Being a good blocking TE, he could help the O-line as well.
