MudSkipper
Yes I know the Pats were in catch up mode in the 4th Quarter yesterday, but it sure looked as though Gabriel ran decent routes and was on Brady's radar. I am going to strongly consider starting him in games like this Sunday's against the Bengals where the winner will be required to score at least 24 points. After all, how hard can be be to climb a depth chart with R Caldwell?
charty
Until there are any signs otherwise, you can probably expect similar stats from all the Pats receivers any given week. I wouldn't touch Caldwell, Gabriel, Brown, or Jackson until someone establishes themselves. Starting any of the WRs is a crapshoot at this point. And you are right, it was garbage time, and Gabriel was invisible until that point.

Big Score 1
Doug Gabriel is a fine WR, but counting on any Pats WR for week in week out for steady production, is just asking for trouble. It's just not the type of offense that uses a go to WR.
ced1001
As a Pats Homer I'd love to see them try to get Gabriel more involved in the offense. However, The Pats are typically slow to work anyone into their system and Gabriel will likely only see time in 3 WR sets for right now. If it was up to me I'd immediately move him ahead of Reche though.
cre8tiff
I just picked up LJ Smith (some bonehead dropped him) to shore up Ben Watson, who I thought was a LOCK on premier TE this season. He has seemed to have Brady's eye, but will he when one of these real WRs gell?
MudSkipper
I agree it will take him a few more weeks to really be a game in game out starter, but this weeks matchup in Cinn has me leaning towards using him especially in a 1pt per reception scoring scheme. The Bengals should really drive up trhe score on them forcing the pass. Buts thats just me Edited September 26, 2006 by MudSkipper

pseudolefty
I think Gabriel has a great shot at making an impact at the WR position. Troy Brown is a possession type of guy, Reche is definitely not a #1 WR (I know from his days with the Chargers), and Chad Jackson is still a rookie. Gabriel's got a lot of talent and I saw a blurb on ESPN when he originally got traded to the Pats that the Pats were cautiously excited about the trade, and internally thought they got a steal. Plus, Brady is a solid QB who will get Gabriel the ball. Brady's been searching for someone (anyone) to step up and take the place of Branch, Givens, etc... Brady just hasn't been himself because he hasn't had any WRs to throw to. He needs someone to step up and Gabriel could be that guy.
