Peterson out for season with broken collarbone

Associated Press

NORMAN, Okla. -- Heisman Trophy hopeful Adrian Peterson broke his collarbone on a dive into the end zone Saturday, and the Oklahoma star running back will miss the rest of the regular season.

Peterson was injured on his last carry of the game -- a 53-yard scoring run with about 6:40 remaining that completed the 23rd-ranked Sooners' 34-9 win over Iowa State.

Peterson ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

Peterson, a junior, who has 1,030 yards this season and entered the weekend as the nation's fourth-leading rusher, was second in Heisman voting as a freshman. He was playing for the first time in years before his father, who had spent about eight years in federal prison for money laundering.

"Just diving into the end zone and when he landed, he landed wrong," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. "At this point it looks like the best thing, the earliest he would be ready to play, would be a bowl game."

Wrong forum, but I guess that means that he'll slip significantly on the draft board next April.

And it's kind of a downer for dad, who apparently just got out of prison recently. :D

WOW what does this do for his fantasy status of no.1 pick in our drafts and also via the real NFL Draft. Does this drops his stock like a rock?

I posted it here because u could kinda say he is already NFL fantasy football. Heck most of his are trying to get the no.1 pick by trading to a sorry team just to draft him. Plus I know some like me are prospecting now for next yr draft.

Wasn't Peterson banged up last season as well? This will drop him to at least the second round.

Here's an idea. Run into the end zone and stay on your feet.

He is still a first round pick. Top 10 easily.

Edit to add:

Top 10 in NFL draft and top 10 in EVERY dynasty draft out there.

My first thought was "how stupid, since he has an injury history", but he was caught at the ankle and dove to score. It wasn't typical showing off.

Great talent, I was hoping GB would draft him in the 1st, but he has a fragility issue.

Also, two of the greatest backs available are both out for the year- Bush and Peterson. That really messes up the draft board when both should have been top 5-10 picks!

2nd round, you guys are idiots. Peterson is a once in a generation type of back. He will got top 4 at the latest, even with this injury.

His ankle/foot was grabbed. He does have a tendency to showboat a little and it scares the crap out of me everytime.

Peterson is a very special back. I really don't think the collarbone thing will hurt him too bad in the draft. I'm praying that he comes back to OU and breaks the record. But if he enters, he'll go top 10 easily. I would much rather have Peterson over Bush. They're both incredible, but Bush will always be a specialty back. I think once Peterson gains 10-15 pounds and is polished a little, he's going to be a punishing and really physical back in the NFL.

I meant Michael Bush from Loo-ville, not Reggie. Never heard him referred to as a specialty back, at 6'3" 250lbs with a 4.5 40, that is a special back who can dish out punishment in the NFL.

Peterson over Bush? :D Come on .... Peterson is a good back but he will NEVER be the back that Bush is. :D Never.

OK. Sorry, I thought you meant Reggie too. I agree that he'll be better than Michael Bush.

I had a hard time telling if the defender actually made contact or if Peterson was diving before the defender swiped. First time I saw it, I was sure it was showboating. Replays/slowmos since then? Maybe the kid gets the benefit of the doubt and the guy did make some contact before rather than just as/after Peterson begins his dive.

:D

But if he's a concensus "leave college early to make millions as a top ten draft pick", how does a no-name defender catch him from behind on a breakaway TD run? :D

Looked to me like he got tripped up by the ankle, but through his forward inertia, he willed himself through it into the end zone. He wasn't showboating, just refusing not to get into the end zone.

It's a collarbone. If he had seriously hurt his ankle or knee, that would effect his draft status more than a collarbone.

I don't think anyone who needs a RB is going to turn down a guy who is 6'2", almost 220, and runs a 4.37 40 (on a slow track twice). I don't think anyone who needs a back is going to pass on a guy who is like a mix of LenDale and Reggie, in that he can cut on a dime, get to full speed in a snap, and bull rush over LBs if he wants to...

Top 10 to second round is such a huge money difference, that if he was actually projected there, which is absurd by the way, he would almost have to come back for his senior year. But let's say he did fall to 2nd round status. He would almost have to play his senior year for OU then: play behind an OL of all juniors who have been together since his sophomore year. Let his dad witness more than 1 college game before he turned pro, including the OU Texas game atmosphere and Miami in Norman. And most importantly, work his way back up to top 5 status.

guess you didnt see the replay did you jackass????? The announcers make it sound like he dove in the endzone celebrating, when thats just not the case, he was tripped up at about the one and fell/lept/dove into the endzone.

In 10 day time, OU has lost to Texas, lost thier stud RB, and their top tackler was arrested. This is a very bad 10 days for Sooner fans. Doesn't the NCAA start thier investigation of Big Red Motors this week?

AD is a stud, although like Bush found out, NFL defense does not = NCAA defense. (He's hanging his NCAA cleats up now.) A lot of their success was due to the good O-lines they played behind in college.

He should go 1st round, and we'll just have to see what happens when he gets hit hard on every play....

OU wont win the Big 12, so their season is well like the Whorns the last 5 yrs prior to last yr. OU will continue to play the kids and have them develop. A stud Qb is going to be in Norman next yr, and the redshirt will be off their top recruited RB, starting a new era. OU could never win a Championship with AD, and no Qb, but they have proven they can win with Q griffin and a solid Qb.

What is great is Texas is #9 in the BCS, with no one remaining on their schedule to get them back to the top 2, unless all 7 of 8 ahead of them lose, not counting who ever will be #1. I dont see that happening, so they can enjoy a 2 loss season, because whoever they face in the bowl is going to wipe the floor with that over-rated sack of sh*it.

I realize that the above poster probably doesn't feel this way anymore. I think Texas is the second best team in the nation after watching them play the last couple weeks.
