Fantasy Playoff seeding question

but the point remains the same....it's boiling everything down to one week, versus 13. which multiplies the luck factor by 13.

now THAT i would be strongly in favor of. a 13 week hypothetical head-to-head. does MFL or another site offer something like that as an option? and there's the logistical problem if more than two teams are tied. :D

MFL has a built-in all-play table.

Fanball has a "power" ranking-you play everyone every week. We don't use this for our league but it would be fairer, in the overall picture. My "arch-rival" was in the weak divison this year. his record was 8-5. I was in the strong division and my record was 5-8. Since we play every one in our own division twice and he other division once-he has the much better record and, hence, a playoff berth. I'm out- but, if I had been in his division and he was in mine-He'd have a 5-8 record(and out of the playoffs) and I would have a 9-4 record and in the playoffs. How would you solve that kind of situation for next year?

I'm in several leagues with a variety of systems.

In one of my 12 team leagues there are 4 divisions of 3 teams. Obviously the 4 division winners are in and that leaves 2 wild card spots. I have had the mis-fortune of failing to win my divison and not making the playoffs with a better record than the 4th division winner. Sometimes (like this year) that 4th division winner has a losing record (this year that team is 6-7 after winning the last game of the regular season). The 6-7 division winner is the 5th seed while two teams at 7-6 are the 5th and 6th seeds. We adjusted our payouts to compensate. Winning your division only results in a better seed and teams have to earn their payouts as all payouts are based on how teams finish in the playoffs.

In another 12 team league we have 2 conferences of 2 divisions of 3 teams each. Each division winner advances and each conference sends a wild card. This also means that a team can make the playoffs with record inferior to a team that does not make the playoffs because of conference affiliation. So the 4th seed is 7-6 while the 5th and 6th seeds are 8-5.

In another 12 team league we have 3 divisions of 4 teams. The 3 division winners advance, the non-division winning team with the highest YTD points is the 4th seed regardless of his record and the last two wildcards spots go the the two teams with the best record not already in the playoffs. The 3 division winners are 9-5, the 4th seed (points leader not to win a division) is 8-6, 5th seed is 9-5 , 6th seed is 8-6.

In another 12 team league with 2 divisions of 6 teams there is 1 division winner and 2 wild cards from each division. So again a team in one division can miss the playoffs with a better record than one or more (or all) teams in the other division to make the playoffs.

In both of my dynasty leagues (12 and 10 team) there are 2 divisions, no bye week. In week 15 the team with the best record in each division will play the team with tne 2nd best record from the same division for the right to go to the league super bowl in week 16.

It is this variety of formats that makes things interesting.
