Bill Swerski
As far as I'm aware, the Grossman problem hasn't reached Ortonesque proportions yet, but that is, IMO, only one loss away. Then the D will start muttering. I'm sure that they already are muttering... Orton in 2005: 15 GS, 13 INT, 5 fumbles lost (1.2 turnovers/game) Grossman in 2006: 12 GS, 17 INT, 4 fumbles lost (1.8 turnovers/game)
gilthorp
I'm sure that I am in the minority here. I like having a guy that is willing to throw it 50 yards downfield to make a play. It keeps the defense at bay and opens up the running game more than usual. They just need to ensure that he doesn't whip it down there 10 times all the time. I think Griese would be OK for a game but if a team prepared for him, we'd be taking a big step backward, almost Shoop and Crowton like in pass production. xMRogers
a light just went off in my head. how about a platoon system?? we could have grossman and thomas jones run the 1st/4th series. throw in griese and benson on the 2nd and third. whoever has looked better, gets the snaps. if either unit runs cold, replace them. maybe we could even get kyle orton/adrian petersen in there for a few series. Considering I bet on the Rams.....I could only hope they something crazy like this
Cunning Linguist
I'm no Joe Thiesman when it comes to talking about throwing mechanics but is it me or does Grossman look like he doesn't step into his throws? He seems to be throwing from his back foot alot.

Given this team's defense and special teams, I think that a higher-efficiency passer who turns the ball over fewer times would be a better fit than a mistake-prone QB with more experience in the offense and more confidence to throw the ball downfield. That was essentially the choice that Belichick had to make back in '01. Not that Griese is comparable to Brady, but if he can manage the offense in the way that Dilfer did back in 2000, the Bears will be better off. If Rex turns the ball over more than once against the awful Rams defense, we'll almost certainly get to see what Griese can do.

Brady was certainly comparable to Grossman yesterday. As if he hasn't done enough to this Colts fan over the past few years.

Playoff hopes riding on Brady? Yup...he helped boot me out of one of my leagues as well...

Bill Swerski
Playoff hopes riding on Brady? No, not "riding" on him in any sense. I just expected him to contribute a reasonable 10-15 points, rather than 1. I played the Brees owner this weekend, so it's kind of a moot point now. Rockerbraves
Benching Grossman would be a tough and risky decision. Think I continue to start him myself. Might take him out of a game for a series or two if he continues to produce turnovers,. However I would let him know he's the man unless it becomes very very clear for everyone with maybe the exception of Grossman himself that Greise earned the starting position. Bill Swerski
Looks like Lovie lighting a fire under Rex's ass did the job. If he can limit his turnovers to one, he should be the starting QB. Unfortunately, the Rams' sorry-ass defense didn't provide much of a test. Grossman has struggled big-time against solid defensive units (NE, MIA), not to mention some bad ones as well (ARI, MIN). He needs to learn how to take a sack, rather than try to get rid of the ball as a DE or LB is swatting at his throwing arm.
