I've included injured players with good years last season as well as those who lost all of last season.

Who would you pick?

Last 10 winners

1996 Jerome Bettis, RB Pittsburgh

1997 Robert Brooks, WR Green Bay

1998 Doug Flutie, QB Buffalo

1999 Bryant Young, DT San Francisco

2000 Joe Johnson, DE New Orleans

2001 Garrison Hearst, RB San Francisco

2002 Tommy Maddox, QB Pittsburgh

2003 Jon Kitna, QB, Cincinnati

2004 Drew Brees, QB San Diego

2005 Teddy Bruschi, LB New England and Steve Smith, WR Carolina

While Drew Brees is the no-brainer I'd be the small percentage to go for a less popular situation, Travis Henry.

I'm not saying i'd vote for him, but i'd put Pennington on the list. Did anyone think he'd ever play a full season again?

I'd actually go with Deuce McAllister... overcoming the nature of his knee injury with a first year 1,000 + yard season is pretty impressive.

Brees for sure.

Dark Horse Pennington... especially if his team makes the playoffs.

I'm not sure why Brees should be considered "comeback" player.

He got injured late in the game of his last game of the year in 06'.

I go with Deuce.

Exactly. I can't give a comeback to someone that really was never gone. Brees had a great year last year.

Deuce is a good choice. I also like Walker for this spot.

With all due respect to guys like Brees and a few others... I went with McNair.

That's always a concern. Brees didn't have lower stats but was let go by the Chargers and Miami signed Daunte instead because they were concerned about the injury. So even thoiugh his stats didn't suffer his value as FA may have.

I like Walker myself. He worked hard to get back and looks even stronger than before getting hurt. He won't be back to his 2004 numbers(he'd need over 300 and 4 YD's) but should be next year.

Surprised Ahman Green only has one vote. Especially when you considering that the injury he suffered, is generally a career ender.

Brees should not even be considered for a "Come Back" award. I don't think anyone is getting the point when they vote for him.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award has been given out after every season since 1972, except for 1985 when no winner was selected. The player named Comeback Player of the Year shows perseverance in overcoming adversity, in the form of not being in the NFL the previous year, a severe injury, or simply poor performance.

His injury qualifies.

Brees played in 16 games in 2005 and threw for 3500 yards and 24 TDs. Those were both career highs until this year. He doesn't qualify.

Chad Pennington has thrown for over 3000 yards and played a complete season for the first time since 2002 AND leading his team to a (likely) playoff spot.

Travis Henry is going over 1000 yards for the first time since 2003.

Although he has only played a handful of games I think Garcia gets this award hands down.He has been in Detroit and Cleveland for the last couple of years so you might of well consider that as being out of the league. He has brought the Eagles back from the dead.Wining three straight NFC East road games locks it up for him IMO.

Some good candidates, but after having rotator cuff surgery last year and watching Brees look better than last year I have to go with him.

Not having Pennington on this list shows a lack of knowledge regarding professional football on the part of the pollster.

Not having Pennington on this list shows a lack of knowledge regarding professional football on the part of the pollster.

Brees 2005: 16 games, 323-500 (64.6%), 3576, 24 TD, 15 INT

Brees 2006: 15 games, 353-550 (64.2%), 4378, 26 TD, 11 INT

Again, what exactly is he coming back from?

Pennington 2005: 3 games, 49-83 (59.0%), 530, 2 TD, 3 INT

Pennington 2006: 15 games, 291-455 (64.0%), 3195, 16 TD, 16 INT

Green 2005: 5 games, 96 touches, 402 yards, 0 TD

Green 2006: 13 games, 287 touches, 1329 yards, 6 TD

Henry 2005: 9 games, 101 touches, 452 yards, 0 TD

Henry 2006: 13 games, 266 touches, 1184 yards, 7 TD

Brees isn't even remotely a candidate for this award people. :D
