Georgia (8-4) vs. Virginia Tech (10-2)

Recommended Posts

The SEC will put another one of their four underdog teams to the test tonight when the unranked Georgia Underdogs take on the 14th ranked Virginia Tech in The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Hopefully if Peach Bowl history is any indication this one should come down to the wire. The Chick- fil -A Peach Bowl claims to be the most competitive bowl game in college football history with an average margin of victory of only 7.9 points per game over the last 15 seasons despite last year's lopsided 40-3 LSU win over the Miami Hurricanes.

If we're lucky we might actually see some defense for a change. Virginia Tech enters the game as the number 1 scoring and overall defense in the nation while Georgia is number 9 in total defense. Vegas oddsmakers seem to agree having set the over/under at one if not the lowest point totals for this entire bowl season at 38. Hopefully this game doesn't involve too many special team plays which is Coach Beamer's thing.

As an SEC fan, I'm looking at this game like the Kentucky game. Not expecting much. As I said in another thread, Va Tech is arguably the best team in the ACC (and is Nationally ranked as such) as they soundly defeated the eventual conference champ late in the season. If the 6th or 7th best in the SEC loses to them, that's really no sweat. Of course, if GA wins...

As an anti-SEC & anti-ACC fan, I can hardly care....

Any chance this can end in a tie ---

Oops, from a gambling perspective I do feel differently... Go Hokies...

I think both teams lack of anything resembling an offensive threat will be the determination of a defensive game.

VaTech lost 2 in the ACC this season....................TWO in the ACC :D That's enough for me right there. The Big East is head and shoulders above the ACC this season.

You may be surprised.

But more poor officiating continues. VaTech gets the TD when it's clear the dudes forward motion was stopped, at least apparent to anyone with vision. :D

I freakin' hate officials!

This the same Georgia team that flattened the 10-2 Auburn Tigers at Auburn to end the regular season??

Halftime Score: Virginia Tech 21 Georgia 3

The Georgia Underdogs go to the half with all three timeouts, as they see the Hokies call off the dogs and they do not try and get the ball back. The Georgia fans voice their displeasure, but it might be just as well. If you don't have the ball, you can't make mistakes. :D

Give the Georgia Underdogs some credit for recovering that onside kick and then taking FULL ADVANTAGE by scoring a TD. At least now the game is somewhat back within reach.

'bout time Georgia starts exposing VaTech for who they are............a suckass ACC team

I fully expected Georgia to win this game, picked them in all 4 of my bowl pickem contests, but they are falling short of expectation so far.............let's hope they start playing a bit better to take out the over rated team.

Tied up :D

Seems that so called vaunted defense of VaTech was only vaunted for ACC play, not saying too much.

Wow not sure if I have ever seen a bowl season quite as entertaining as these last few days. Momentum swings have been incredible.

This was an easy pick for me to make. VaTech plays in a very weak ACC this season, and they are playing a home game in the Georgia Dome. I had Georgia as the favorite as soon as the bowl was announced, some poor suckas just lost some in Vegas :D

The underdogs in these middle tier bowl games seemed to be covering. Hopefully both our teams will do better in their roles as favorites in the bigger BCS bowl games. :D

Boy how the ACC has fallen . #2 team going down to an unranked team. VaTech was far too overhyped for playing no one all season.

I've got ND against your Tigers, so i'm hoping the trend continues until that point at least. There's no offense in the SEC that can sling it like Quinn, so that defense will get a really good test. I like ND to win though, we'll see.

Sort of makes one wonder just how good the Gators are if two unranked SEC teams beat ranked teams. Granted both came against ACC teams, but if you take away the SEC wins then the ACC would be undefeated at 3-0 in bowl games so far.

A number that sort of jumps out at me is that there is only one guy on that list that got sacked more than Quinn. That could be a problem for the golden domers.

Noticed that myself. Would think LSU will put together an agressive defensive game plan to try and take advantage of that. The thing that jumps out at me is that JaMarcus QB ranking is actually higher than Troy Smith and he's huge at 6'6" 250+ pounds and has the arm to match. Would love to see JaMarcus come back for his senior year, but can't blame him if he leaves. Sugar Bowl should mean alot to him considering he'll be on the same stage as the All American Poster Boy. Russell understands he could really bolster his NFL stock should he out perform Brady Quinn that night. Personally, I think Quinn will be the first QB to go in the draft regardless. IMO he's accomplished his feat with less personnel surrounding him.

Quinn has gotten his big numbers vs the chump part of his schedule. He struggled against the only 3 ranked teams he faced (Ga Tech, Michigan, and USC). But then again, its the greatest coach in the universe, coaching the next Tom Brady, playing for gods team, so you never know.

Really don't see Quinn having a great Sugar Bowl considering he's going against the best ever two lost team in the history of sports. :D

Only chance ND has is if they don't abandon the run. I think Weis wants so hard for Brady Quinn to be the man, that he forgets that he has a decent running game. I'm not saying ND would have a lot of success against LSU's outstanding rush d, but you can't just completely ignore it either. Notre Dame makes themselves one dimensional much too often, because Charlie is determined to make Quinn the next Tom Brady.

Brady Quinn wasn't at his best against Tech or even Michigan where he threw as many picks as TD's three each, however you can't argue he did his part against USC, completing 22 of 45 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

Been a long time since I've seen Frank Beamer.

What was that on his neck? Big lump of something on the right side of his neck and his neck skin was all discolored...
