DMD
Man - my kid just got one and it is proving to be the most popular electronic gaming console he ever had. He's gone through the other nintendo, XBox, etc. but my wife loves it, my sister and her family wants one. All his friends want to get one. It's the interactive one where you hold the controller and have to move it like you were playing tennis or bowling or playing golf or whatever. Everyone that has played it seems like they are addicted to it. It's pretty funny to watch how animated people get playing it. Anyone use one? Puddy
Mrs. Puddy wants one. I know that ChuckB showed up to bowling one Monday whining about being completely sore. I asked what happened and he said "played Nintendo Wii over the weekend".
Retrograde assault
I asked the wife and kids about it before X-mas and got a lukewarm response, so I didn't buy it. I guess I should have just gone out and got it.

That thing is crazy and fun Oh and for the record I wasn't "whining" I was just laying the foundation for an excuse for bowling bad
DemonKnight
I played one for the first time the other night. I played the 1st person shooter. It was fun as hell. The only gripe I had was the sensitivity of the pointer and the difficulty of finding the proper distance/angle to the tv. Overall.... I want one. AtomicCEO
This is the month I pay off every outstanding debt I have except for student loans and mortgage. Next month I can spend money on toys, and I plan to buy a Wii from the toy budget. I can't wait.
Czarina
Everyday. We splurged on it for Christmas for the boys. We have near nightly bowling tournaments these days. My 11 year old is playing Zelda as I type. We haven't gotten a wireless router for the computer yet, but when we do, we'll be downloading classic NES games just for the fun of it. irish
How much does this thing cost?
Czarina
How much does this thing cost? List price is $250, games go for about $50. You don't need extra memory or anything, it's in the machine. If you want extra controllers, the remote is around $25 and the nunchuk add on is another $15-20. You don't need the nunchuk part for lots of things, and one comes with the initial package. You need it for boxing and for Zelda, for example but not for golf, bowling, baseball or tennis. Wii sports comes with the console.
cliaz
I'm very suprised at how popular this system is. I thought with all the press that the PS3 would be leading the pack with XBOX 360 in a distant 2nd and the Wii dead last. Early on different critics were saying "Kids don't want to use controlls like that, they wanna sit down and play their games." Boy did this one come out of left field or what? Finally the Sony Company has to eat a little ish in their mouth. Bring them back down to reality.

I discovered something I had not thought about with the Wii. My son showed me The Huddle on his Wii because I have a wireless LAN in my house. It just automatically connected him - I do not use the wireless part of my router normally. The potential problem with that is the Wii is connecting to the internet without any filtering or logfiles. So "the boys" can eventually figure out they can surf any site they want without being stopped or caught. I have a filter on his computer and know what he does on it but now I am not sure what I am going to do knowing how 13 and 14 year old boys are. I could always unplug his computer or XBox if I wanted but I cannot unplug the wireless without turning off the router - and my own connection. Something to be aware of.... boys will be boys... You should turn on the encryption for your wireless connection. That won't solve NetNanny type issues, but it will work as an on/off switch for the internet connection. You should encrypt it anyway; you don't want someone who is stealing your wireless signal searching for kiddie porn.

theeohiostate
We have the PS3 and Xbox 360, can someone who owns either of these systems and the wii, give their opinon on the consoles?
DMD
My son has an XBox360 too. That is just a standard video game - with great graphics. But the kids just sit there staring at the screen moving the little controls around like all other consoles. The wii is about moving the coffee table and making a big open space in front of the TV because people have to move around when they literally are boxing or bolwing or playing tennis. It is like two entirely different things.

If you don't use it, there's no reason to have it available to everyone. DMD, if you need help on this, pm me the manufacturer and model of your modem/router. I do this stuff all the time for my job. Czarina
One thing you notice when you fire it up is that there are endles Wii "channels" on the home page. Wii has just signed on to provide news articles from the AP for their news channel. You can upload and share pictures with other Wii owners. Another cool thing: you can store your Mii (avatar/player info) on your remote and carry it to another person's house to play there. It's only good for Wii Sports, obviously, since other games have their own built-in characters. Still, my 7 year old brought his Mii with him to his buddy's house Friday. Nifty.
