Give me a guy that will slam it up the middle.

Call me. :D

Lets see, I think its fair to say Alexander, Portis, Henry, Maroney, who all scored less than Barber will surpass him this yr. Id also add R Brown, Edge, T Jones, and even potentially Magahee to that list. Next add the usual suspects, LT, LJ, SJ, Westy, Gore, Parker, Addai, Bush. And I also think MJD and Peterson are nice bets to surpass MB, so yes 15th is probably the best case scenerio. I also think barber could suffer being an every down back, not fresh at the goal line which could decrease his TDs.

:D

I'm not sure an increase in use = an increase in production from Barber either.

Your just funny sometimes :D .

So in your opinion where does Barber land if he is the man.

BTW, many thought Troy Hambrick would be a stud too, if he only had the carries. We see where that got him. Barber is nothing more than a glorified Troy Hambrick as far as Im concerned. I wouldnt take him before round 3, and that is if 20 + RBs are off the market. This dude isnt feature back material, and Im a Boys homer.

From 9 - 13 would be my guess. I just dont see how he drops in value when you take Jones out of the picture. He will get so many more reps. If he doesnt break down his production goes up. Simple really!

BTW Hambrick was a chump and that seemed clear to me early on.

I think your whole argument in this thread is valid and fine. I however think MBIII is a lot better RB than you are giving him credit for. You've seen him play a heck of a lot more than I have, but I saw flashes of a really good RB last year. I for one will look to add him to my FF teams no matter what happens with Jones (Jones could get hurt or just flat out lose his job to JJ). I like what I see in MBIII and I think comparing him to T Hambrick is a slam on MBIII and the potential I see in him.

Dallas spending $$ to solidify the o-line and another year of experience for Romo = running room for MB3. He was clearly the better back last year - breaks tackles, more power, and much better blocker if needed. Even if JJ stayed, I woulda been surprised if he kept his starting role under the new regime.

I could see how someone might rank 14 RBs ahead of MB3 in the pre-season even if he became the primary runner, but to say he would score as the #15 RB at best, lacks logic. He was practically there (or apparently better than that last year) while getting about 1 carry to every 2 for Jones.

With Wade Phillips as the new HC, is it possible that the Cowboys are clearing space and looking for draft picks to make a run at Michael Turner? Phillips has been around the Chargers enough to know the goods on Turner.

It may make for another RBBC (Turner and MB III) but the Turner market has been very quiet and Dallas (Jerry Jones) is known for making some noise.

:shakinghead:

I was one of those who thought if Hambrick had the opportunity he'd do a good job. I was wrong.

I also think it's foolish to compare the two. Barber is a much more effective runner, and he has a nose for the goal line.

If Barber was the starter, I wouldn't hesitate to take him as my #2 rb.

He put up good numbers last year and being the starter wouldn't lower him out of being a #2 fantasy rb even if a couple people moved past him on the charts.

I've never quite figured out whether Jerry Jones is a Julius fan or not. Locally, when you hear Jerry talk it sounds like clearly Julius is his starter, but for the past 2 years now there again comes this trade talk for Julius.

I think they are serious about "if the right offer comes along". That right offer is going to be a very high 2nd for Jerry to do this though I think. As for players who knows what Dallas wants. I can't even speculate as to what Dallas is trying to do or how they will draft. Defensively they want to move Henry to safety so another corner will be in the near future and there really needs to be some real effort into finding a younger solid wide receiver.

As for Julius he never really seemed to be comfortable with Parcells. I think he has something but only will you see it if the team has a decent OL that can give him that second to view the lane. Remember, his brother really spared us out for a couple of years also before he came around. I think Julius is better than his brother.

I think I know where Sgt. Ryan is coming from with Barber...he is not a superstar running back...he is just a very solid, workhorse type back that gets positive yardage...he would make a GREAT #2 on a fantasy team if JJ leaves, but he isn't a top 10 NFL caliber running back...jack of all trades, master of none...

Brandon Jacobs looks great in short yardage situation, but he isnt feature back material either. Barber is a smaller Jacobs, with alot less power. Barber is a short yardage specialist, not a feature back. If he becomes a feature back, I compare him to Rebuen Droughns. Nothing more. Hambrick was a slam on MBIII, but at the time, some thought emmitt should retire to let Hambrick take over.

Why is that, exactly? How do you know so definitively that a guy can't be a featured RB - despite evidence that would suggest he could be, which is why he's in a position to claim a featured RB spot in the first place - until he is given a shot at being a featured RB & fails?

Lets talk in a yr. I got a feeling Jacobs is going to be a bust. Barber too, if he is the only back in Dallas, which concerns me.

I think the cost for Turner is a 1st and a 3rd this year..that's not gonna happen.

I think anyone that owns Turner in a dynasty league that has any kind of emphasis on TDs is praying he doesnt go to Big D.

That's the cost IF he is signed to an offer sheet. If a team works directly with SD on a trade, the cost should be a little bit lower.

Exactly. Which is the only way anyone would go after him. I also agree with you on Jacobs to a point. There's something about him that I'm just not completely sold on just yet. I'm looking at him as a #3 RB with a 4th RB option. I think he can be good, but for some reason I think Benson is going to be better than Jacobs.

Watching him as a Gopher I would agree with this. Of course he has talent and some definite spurts of speed, but he has always ALWAYS shared carries throughout his career.

Cowboys | Jones not likely to get traded

Wed, 14 Mar 2007 19:06:23 -0700

DallasCowboys.com reports Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said it "is not a point of interest" for the team to trade RB Julius Jones. "I don't see that happening," Jerry Jones said. "We have got a team that's going to need some great plays from that position and I like what we've done there with (RB) Marion Barber III. More than likely, unless we have an opportunity in the draft to do something, it's likely that we'll be going with the running back group we ended the season with."
