* The Chiefs are bracing for a training-camp holdout by running back Larry Johnson. Johnson, who has rushed for 3,539 yards and 37 touchdowns the last two seasons, has 3 years left on the deal he signed as a rookie in 2003. He is scheduled to make $1.85 million this year and $967,000 next year. The Chiefs have been talking to Johnson's agent about a new deal, but the two sides still are far apart. A club source put the odds of Johnson holding out this summer at 50-50. Johnson, who owns a home in New York with rapper Jay-Z, showed up in Kansas City Sunday for the first time since the team began its voluntary workouts last month and has worked out with his teammates the last 2 days. He has indicated that he will attend the team's postdraft minicamp in 2 weeks.

Pretty old, but for WIW

February 15, 2007

Adam Teicher, Kansas City Star

RB Larry Johnson is scheduled to make about $1.9 million this season in the contract he signed as a rookie in 2003. Johnson is a star, and he’d like to be paid like a star. It’s safe to assume Johnson is looking for something similar to the contract of RB LaDainian Tomlinson. LT’s deal guarantees him $21 million and is worth $60 million over eight seasons. But for every reason to give Johnson a new deal, there’s one for the Chiefs to stand pat. Johnson has three seasons remaining on his deal. A new deal would consume massive salary-cap space for years and hamper the Chiefs’ efforts to rebuild their defense.

He's very underpaid and a new deal will get done. Now whether he'll get the 80 million contract he's looking for is another thing.

I don't blame him at all. I know he has a contract but when an employee is doing as well as LJ, it is appropriate to compensate accordingly.

He should be compensated better, no question. Bottom line, however, is that he has a contract that he signed, and he should report and go to work. Let his agent and the team work on a renegotiation. Do not hold out - be a man.

Yeah for him be the entire team he should never come up in trade talks. I'd demand Jamarcus Russell money for the work he's done with that POS contract.

:D

My brother is a firefighter, he saves lives and doesnt get anything close to that.

So yeah, you may want to tap the breaks a little before you call his contract a POS...

Its not like he's not making anything, he was a first round pick...

Communist.

This isn't an agreement of how much NFL players get paid it's about LJ's contract compared to other RBs of his caliber.

God bless your brother btw...

+1. What ever happened to honor and ethics? You signed a contract. Live up to the terms of it. If both sides want to renegotiate the terms, then fine. But while the details are being worked out, you need to give it 100% effort.

Honor and ethics are all fine and dandy but if LJ, in making his maximum effort, gets a career ending injury, are the Chiefs going to pay out the entire remainder of his contract? :D
