Dallas locker room much more relaxed

Recommended Posts

... and laid back than last year. The players are reporting there is a lot less pressure this year. Julius doesn't have to "run like a robot" any more and TO can ... well he can be TO.

So does anybody out there think that Dallas needed to be "more relaxed"? Is that a recipe for success in the NFL?

It's worked great for the Texas Rangers so far this year. They got rid of Buck and brought in a "players coach" and are in last place....but I am sure it'll be different in football.

Not exactly the same as the Rangers organization as a whole believes they can win with no pitching ... :D ... maybe I'll have to retract my statement given JJ's strategy of bargain basement shopping for tired old QBs.

Well as a diehard Ranger fan, that organization is completely clueless.

They traded Travis Hafner for a spare part catcher Diaz the week they let Pudge leave for nothing becasue he was washed up. A WS ring later with Florida, he has since moved to Detroit to help lead one of the best teams in baseball.

They traded Chris Young and Adrian Gonzales for FA to be Adam Eaton and a setup man. Eaton left the club a year later the first chance he could, and SP Chris Young and 1B Adrian Gonzales are the backbone of the Padres organization.

Then this team trades OF Kevin Mench and CL Francisco Cordero for FA to be Carlos Lee. Lee walks 3 months later for nothing.

And finally they trade a promising left handed Barry Zito to be clone John Danks and a nice bullpen arm, for Brandon McCarthy. Danks era is half of McCartney and he is pitching in the big leagues for the White Sox a contending team, where Texas didnt think he was ready to pitch for them :D

This front office is the worst in pro sports. the owner is clueless, the GM is a 30 yr old smart ass, who is as clueless as the former empty golf shirt here before him. The only talent on the field is 1B, Texeria, 2B Kinsler and SS Young. The OF is completely terrible, and the SP sucks outside of Kevin Millwood and even he is only a solid #3 starter for contending team.

Yup ... the Ranger organization couldn't win a world series if they were given unlimited resources and the ability to cherry pick all the players they wanted from any team in baseball.

I think the tension of Parcells was too much to the extreme, and a more "laid back" atmosphere is needed (in relation to Parcells' environment). However, I'm confident that this "laid back" atmosphere will swing too much to the other side, and its extreme will not benefit DAL.

Regardless, can't wait to watch the show from DAL. :D

I don't know how any of us can answer this question...were any of us in that locker room throughout the season?

Be careful what you wish for. TO thinks getting rid of Parcells was the tonic this team needs but we'll see how long this feeling -- and Phillips' honeymoon -- lasts.

I can understand that Julius Jones maybe didn't "love" Parcells as his head coach. But keep that to yourself. Why criticize a guy after he's gone? Show some class.

I've lost some respect for Jones based on this. And if this will be the team attitude going forward, they're not in for a good year. They'll turn on the new coaching staff just as quickly.

DING, DING, DING! We have a winner!

Danks' stuff isn't anywhere near Zito's, but he's pitched extremely well thus far for a rookie.

McCarthy arguably has better stuff than Danks (a big, Mussina-like sweeping breaking ball) and he can be a stud when he locates his off-speed stuff. He was phenominal down the stretch in '05 when El Duque was injured. But when he isn't locating that breaking ball, hitters sit on his arrow-straight fastball and knock it out of the park. He really needs to learn how to throw a two-seamer for strikes. If he can do that, you guys will be in good shape. McCarthy was arguably the best pitching prospect in the Sox's farm system for almost a decade and has an absolute ton of upside.

Danks will be a stud, bank on it. Texas traded him. :D

BTW, if McCarthy was the best pitching prospect in the Sox farm system, why did it take him almost an decade to hit the bigs. Is their farm system that bad, because McCarthy hasnt proved to be that good. I hope your right, but Id rather have kept the Lefty danks. No question about that...

Um, McCarthy became our #5 starter at age 22. That's actually pretty early.

The Sox's farm system hasn't been that good since maybe the late '80s/early '90s (Blackjack, Alvarez, Fernandez, Bere, etc.) with regard to pitching prospects. They've found a couple diamonds in the rough along the way (Buehrle, Sirotka) and James Baldwin was pretty good for maybe two seasons, but the only really good "high-ceiling" guy that they developed into a solid starter is Garland... and he was overwhelmingly mediocre for 3-4 years before that. Most of the others have either been busts (John Rausch) or have had very limited success (Kip Wells).

Over the past 5 or so years, the Sox have acquired many of their starters via trades (Colon, Garcia, Contreras, El Duque, Vazquez, etc.). They've managed to get guys like Contreras and Vazquez at low price and their pitching coach (Don Cooper, one of the best in the majors) has gotten a lot out of them.

I hope your right, but Id rather have kept the Lefty danks. No question about that...

No doubt. Unfortunately, I think one of the reasons that Kenny Williams wanted Danks is that our other left-handed starter (Buehrle) is going to command Zito-like money on the FA market next season and that the Sox aren't willing to pay him.

Successful coaching changes seem to happen when one goes from laid back to ass-kicker. When it goes the other way, yeah, sure the players are relaxed, but what happens in the wake of a 2-4 start?

It gets messy, and with no rudder degenerates into finger pointing. Throw in TO....? :D

I have an idea that's sure to make it even more relaxing in Big D. Have a big hugh party. On a big hugh boat. And invite a few ho's. :D Forgot. Someone tried this a couple years ago. Might work in Big D though. :D
