Azazello1313
there is no switch that turns on. it is a gradual thing. sometimes there is a point you can look back on that allows you to look back and say, "there i became a man", but it's not like that event just happens one day, more likely that was just the first test in your life that allowed you to demonstrate it. gilthorp
I voted 31+ but I think that may still be too young. why bother answering when the wise one makes so much sense? same vote as unta, same reasons.
DMD
.... What do you think your son will remember as a hardship DMD? They have computers, cell phones, cable TV, and life is pretty good in the old US right now. I know some things suck, but all-in-all it’s a pretty fun time. Hardship to my son is when the internet is down for 30 minutes or when he has to do ridiculously simple chores. I sometimes wonder what his generation will be like in ten or twenty years since they are growing up with a constant stream of entertainment and communication at all times. In my day, we had to devise things to do and if it took all day to to it, that was fine. Now everyone wants instant gratification and usually can get it. And they get bored so very easily with little ability to amuse themselves. I cannot imagine what it will be like for any grandchildren I may have one day. Rent Idiocracy if you haven't already seen it. By Mike Judge, who brought us Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill and Office Space. It's a pretty lame movie, but it will answer your questions. Chavez
Bottom line: Dad will tell when you reach manhood. No one else can! JMHO What if yours ain't around?
Chavez
if his son is 14 and 14 is the age at which boys become men, then I think that means porn is now allowed on these boards. Have at it, Chavez.)
Chavez
The first time someone faces the illness/death of someone very close to them. Nah, I disagree. Obviously, "manhood" (whatever that means) is not being faced with situation x but how well you nut up when situation x rears its ugly head. When you show some grit, you're a man - or at least a step closer to being one.

muck
Someone told me once that you're not an adult until you have to work on your birthday. For some, it's when you first start earning respect separate from the respect given your family because of your ideas or actions. For others, it's when you "nut up" when something bad happens (or something stressful is happening). No one thing "makes you a man" ... but lots of different things can come together to make it so. One thing is for sure ... it's not when you have your Bah Mitzvah or Confirmation. Or when you turn 16 (and can drive), 18 (and you can get drafted or vote) or 21 (when you can drink). Becoming a man isn't dictated by a calendar.
