detlef
So I'm putting together a CD for some of my friends for our 20th reunion and am looking for somewhat familiar but not painfully obvious tunes from early to mid 80s. We were not into hairbands so no poison, RATT, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, etc. So far I have the following: Ghost Town and Gangsters- Specials Tears of a Clown- English Beat Love Plus One- Haircut 100 The Beat- Elvis Costello Medicine Show- Big Audio Dynamite The Space Between- Roxy Music Somebody Ripped My Stick- Surf Punks Plenty out there, just looking for suggestions. DemonKnight
OK, between Girls, Brass Monkey, or Fight for you Right to Party...Which would you go with? Niether, go with something off of Pauls Boutique. Those songs are played.
detlef
Who did the song with the chorus "Dream on white boy, dream on black girl" (or maybe it's the other way around)?
detlef
Niether, go with something off of Pauls Boutique. Those songs are played. Don't get me wrong, Paul's Boutique is a much better album, but that was more like college for me. I think it came out in 88 or so. I'm looking for stuff that we used to listen to in HS. So it had to come out before
detlef
Here ya go Nice. But could you please find a more comprehensive list? That's only like 1000 songs long.
Dutch Oven
Also added How Soon Is Now- The Smiths OK, between Girls, Brass Monkey, or Fight for you Right to Party...Which would you go with? Out of those, I'd go with Brass Monkey. I also second the call for some Run DMC.

Come On Eileen, Drexy's Midnight Runners - always takes me right back to HS.

rajncajn
Also added How Soon Is Now- The Smiths OK, between Girls, Brass Monkey, or Fight for you Right to Party...Which would you go with? Of those Brass Monkey How about some Dead Kennedys?
chiefjay
Of those Brass Monkey Agreed but what's a reunion without Fight for your Right? I mean, yeah sure it's cheesy but that's what a reunion's about, thinking back to the old days. That song plays (along with Brass Monkey) and the crowd will be signing no doubt. detlef
How about some Dead Kennedys? Was thinking of a wildcard by throwing Nouvelle Vague's version of "Too drunk to f..." I don't know if you guys have heard of this band but it's this cute sounding English chick doing 80s covers. Guns of Brixton, I'll Melt With You (think that version was in Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Just Can't Get Enough

Actually, I'm trying to avoid the obvious, so I might skip all three of those tunes. There'll be plenty of gimmies, but I'm mostly going for, "Man, I haven't even thought of that song in forever". Anyone my age who's been to a few weddings has heard either Brass Monkey or Fight for your Right plenty. Sort of along what DemonKnight was saying.
