80s music mix

So I'm putting together a CD for some of my friends for our 20th reunion and am looking for somewhat familiar but not painfully obvious tunes from early to mid 80s. We were not into hairbands so no poison, RATT, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, etc.

So far I have the following:

Ghost Town and Gangsters- Specials

Tears of a Clown- English Beat

Love Plus One- Haircut 100

The Beat- Elvis Costello

Medicine Show- Big Audio Dynamite

The Space Between- Roxy Music

Somebody Ripped My Stick- Surf Punks

Plenty out there, just looking for suggestions.

No rap or disco I assume as well ? How about new wave and or stuff from depeche mode , the cure , the smiths, inxs ?

Actually rap is fine. Already added la di da di by Slick Rick and Dougie Fresh.

U2 - gloria , sunday bloody sunday , bad , pride

Tka - one way love

Some yaz ( sorry no song names )

Forgot how sings it but " ill stop the world and melt with you "

I will see if I can come up with more ...we appear to be similar in age ( my 20th hs graduation is next year ) so we probably listened to a lot of the same stuff in the 80's

OK, between Girls, Brass Monkey, or Fight for you Right to Party...Which would you go with?

For me it would be fight for your right to party ...I also liked paul revere

You may want to throw in a public enemy song :D

Niether, go with something off of Pauls Boutique. Those songs are played.

Don't get me wrong, Paul's Boutique is a much better album, but that was more like college for me. I think it came out in 88 or so. I'm looking for stuff that we used to listen to in HS. So it had to come out before 87

Who did the song with the chorus "Dream on white boy, dream on black girl" (or maybe it's the other way around)?

I think that is INSX..I hope I spelled that right....

My 20 year reunion is this year as well and some bands that we are using for our flashback video are from:

The Violent Femms

The Cure

Depeshe Mode

INSX

Run DMC

Van Halen

U2

Culture Club

Aerosmith

Duran Duran

Huey Lewis and the News

Men At work

Berlin

Motley Crue

Poisen

The Bangels

B-52's

That's all I can remember off the top of my head.....

Agreed but what's a reunion without Fight for your Right? I mean, yeah sure it's cheesy but that's what a reunion's about, thinking back to the old days. That song plays (along with Brass Monkey) and the crowd will be signing no doubt.

Was thinking of a wildcard by throwing Nouvelle Vague's version of "Too drunk to f..."

I don't know if you guys have heard of this band but it's this cute sounding English chick doing 80s covers.

Guns of Brixton, I'll Melt With You (think that version was in Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Just Can't Get Enough

Actually, I'm trying to avoid the obvious, so I might skip all three of those tunes. There'll be plenty of gimmies, but I'm mostly going for, "Man, I haven't even thought of that song in forever". Anyone my age who's been to a few weddings has heard either Brass Monkey or Fight for your Right plenty. Sort of along what DemonKnight was saying.

Here's where I'm at right now, though the songs have not been put into play order:

Tears of a Clown 2:42 The English Beat

Gangsters 2:47 Special AKA

Ghost Town 3:41 The Specials

The Beat 3:48 Elvis Costello & The Attractions

Love Plus One 3:37 Haircut 100

Medicine Show 6:32 Big Audio Dynamite

Somebody Ripped My Stick 2:51 Surf Punks

The Space Between 4:30 Roxy Music

La Di Da Di 4:28 Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick

How Soon Is Now 6:41 The Smiths

Dream Team Is In The House 5:11 LA Dream Team

Cool For Cats 3:14 Squeeze

And She Was 3:38 Talking Heads

Just Another Day 5:14 Oingo Boingo

This is Radio Clash 4:10 The Clash

Original Sin 3:46 INXS

Love My Way 3:41 Psychedelic Furs

Move out 5:46 Yaz

One of the specials tunes has to go so I can make room for another artist and I might choose Into You Like a Train instead of Love My Way by the Furs
