How about something from Paul Simon's Graceland?

Certainly a great album, but I think it appealed more to the older than HS crowd back then. Certainly I'd be far more inclined to listen to that now than most of what I listened to back then (really Elvis Costello, The Clash, and all the Ska is the only stuff that I still listen to a bunch from my HS years), but I don't recall being all that into it when it came out.

If you're into ska, it might be worth including One Step Beyond by Madness (or some of their others) and Mirror In The Bathroom by The (English) Beat.

hmmm... I have found high-school memories of that album. I remember playing the cassette in my car during a date once and the girl was impressed with my worldliness. :D (Even better, for the date we went and saw the moving Raising Arizona.) good times... good times

A Flock of Seagulls - "Space Age Love Song"

The Call - "The Walls Came Down"

Dead Or Alive - "Brand New Lover"

Depeche Mode - "Just Can't Get Enough" (as an aside, this led to my favorite 4-word review ever - "I did. You will.")

Falco - "Der Kommisar" or "Vienna Calling"

Marshall Crenshaw - "Someday, Someway"

The Go-Gos - "Vacation"

I was going to go with Ghost Town and Tears of a Clown, but I like your idea of Mirror in the Bathroom instead of Tears.
