Apologies if this has already been started in a different thread.

The first event (actually event #2, the first event is for casino employees only)was a mixed limit/no limit hold 'em event. They alternated between a round of limit and then a round of no limit play. The winner, Steve Billirakis, is the youngest bracelet winner ever at 21 years 10 days old, breaking the record set last year by Jeff Madsen. Top twenty finishers are here, I don't see anyone on that list likely to be on anyone's list in BC's pool.

Event 3 is a $1500 NLHE event, I don't recognize any of the names among the nine who made the final table, which will begin play later today. Original field was 2,998 players per cardplayer.com.

Event #4 is a pot limit hold 'em event - they played down to 51 players late last night (original field was 780). Gavin Smith is among the chip leaders, while Freddy Deeb is alive but on a short stack.

Event #5 is Omaha/7 Card Stud High LOw, now down to 88 players out of 327 original entrants. Plenty of big names left here - Matusow, Ferguson, Harman, Duke, Benyamine, Raymer, Arieh, and more.

I'll have the tracker and stuff ready to go in the next day or so. A little backlogged on home stuff so I couldn't update the tracking sheet for everyone's teams this weekend.

I just found out one of my sleeper picks, Shannon Shorr (I believe I had him at #11), broke his heel and two vertebrae the day before the WSOP began. He is out of the hospitalbut is in a wheel chair while he recovers. He said he will be playing in one of today's events, but if sitting in the chair for a prolonged period is too uncomfortable, he may end up sitting out of most of the series. Sucks for me as he had planned on playing in a lot events.

Just checked the final table players on my Q, and Alex Jacob, the chip leader, was my "young gun" that squeezed Todd Brunson off of my squad. I think he is at 15 on my list.

Jacob went to Harvard, IIRC, did well in a couple WSOP tournies last year and I think took 2nd at the 2007 US Poker Championships (it's been showing continuously on ESPN lately)

Well, Jacob finished 3rd, but, another of my "sleeper picks" has made the final table of the pot limit hold em event, though this is a star studded final table with Gavin Smith the chip leader, and Marco Traniello (Jennifer Harman's husband), Jon Friedberg and my sleeper, Eric Lynch, at the final table, though Eric is the short stack, with 91,000 in chips with blinds at 10,000 and 20,000. Chip leader Gavin Smith is in the mid-400,000 range of chips.

I'll update standings of the WSOP pool in a few days once a few event have finished, unless anyone really wants to know how they are doing after only two events have been completed.

Update after play finished Tuesday night/Wednesday morning:

Event #3 - $1500 NLHE, tournament is over. Some dude I never heard of won it, which means Big Country probabbly had him in his top 5. I know BC also had A (Alex?) Jacobs, who finished third.

Event #4 - PLHE. Mike Spegal wins it, I never heard of him either but I think Big Country took a flyer on him in our pool somewhere in his top 10. Gavin SMith finished second, and another BC sleeper Eric Lynch finished 7th.

Event #5 - $2500 Omaha/7 Card STud Hi/Lo. Tom Schneider wins it. Notables - Annie Duke (3rd), Chris Ferguson (4th), David Benyamine (6th), Scotty Nguyen (10th), Josh Arieh (9th).

Event #6 - $1500 Limit HE. Down to a final table of 9 from an original field of 910. I never heard of any of them but I'm pretty sure BC has 5 or 6 of them on his roster.

Event #7 - $5000 PL Omaha, down to 9 from an original field of 145. Devilfish Ulliot is second in chips going to the final table. At 6th through 8th, in orser, are Minh Ly, Humberto Brenes, and John Juanda.

Event #8 - $1,000 NLHE with rebuys - down to 81 from an original field of 844. Notables remaining include Amir Vahedi, Antonio Esfandiari, Jeff Shulman and Shannon Shorr.

Event #9 - $1500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or better - down to 210 from an original field of 690, Todd Brunson is among the chip leaders.

Not sure which event it was, but I did read something interesting where in one of the events Doyle Brunson got moved to a new table...right across from his son Todd. Apparently neither was thrilled about it as they respect and know one another's games fairly well.

Big Country, early ripe, early rotten, I ain't skered.

Nice calls on the longhsot youngsters thus far- probly what is needed to win this thang since we all have the same guys pegged for the most part.

That was my thought process. I tried to find the young guys that had been running fairly well over the last year. So far two of the 3 I went with have had top 16 finishes. Probably the only finishes I get all series, but it is nice to look Dorey like in my prognostications.

Picking up with event #6, as the first five were completed in previous updates:

Event #6, $1500 limit HE - final table featured no name pros, winner was Gery Styczynski. Yawn.

Event #7 - $5,000 pot limit Omaha - Burt Boutin (who?) outlasted a star-studded final table to win the bracelet. Devilfish Ulliot took 3rd, Minh Ly 5th, John Juanda 7th, and Humberto Brenes 8th.

Event #8 - $1k NLHE with rebuys - down to a nine-man final table out of an original 814 entrants. Amir Vahedi is the chip leader and Michael Gracz is second, I never heard of the rest of e'm, nor any of the guys who finished 10 through 20. 20th place finisher was Vinnie Vinh, who was a chip leader after day 1 but never showed up for day 2. He was blinded off but his day 1 stack was big enough to enable him to survive for 20th and a $16k payday. I read a stry somewhere about how crazy the first three hours were in this tournament (the rebuy period), I'll try to find it and link to it here. There were guys who rebought as many as 15 times.

Event #9 - $1500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or better - down to a final table of 8 out of a field of 690. never heard of any of them, Todd Brunson finished 20th.

Event #10 - $2,000 NLHE - 125 players left out of over 1500, including Hellmuth and Clonie Gowen.

Event #11 - $5,000 7-card stud - down to 98 out of 180 starters. Tons of name pros left, including Juanda, negreanu, Greenstein, Lederer, Cunningham, Darden and Ivey.

Event #12 is the 6-seated NLHE event which is always very popular.

Question, in case anyone know - what if one of the big name pros still alive in event #11 wants to play in event #12? Does he simply have to make a choice as to which one to play since they're being played at the same time? I wonder how the pros decide what to do in a spot like this - I imagine they stay in event #11 so as to save a buy-in and because that tournament is almost down to the bubble already. But I wonder what their thought process is in advance when deciding which events to enter. I would think that they enter as many events as possible rather than cherry-picking the ones they like, and as soon as they're eliminated in one event thay then sign up for the next available???

Here's that article on the wild day 1 of event #8 if anyone is interested.

Burt Boutin (who?)

He was at the final table of the WPT event 2 weeks ago(?). He's an older guy that wears his emotions on his sleeve. Kinda annoying fella really. He's old school.

They play both at the same time. Saw this in action when I was there last year. Generally speaking, you have an event starting at noon and one at 5pm for the new events, and the day 2/final table events are usually at noon and 2pm.

SO, if they are in the 10am event and still alive in an event starting at 2pm, they will play that 10am event, generally play hard a nd fast to try and build up a stack, so at 2pm, they can go to the event the yare deeper in while getting blinded out at the lower blind levels in the newer event.

Saw Matusow doing this last year. When both events were going on, he was running back and forth between tables when one event would go on break.

And each pro is different in their approach. Negreanu posted in his blog the list of events he has targeted to play, noting that for certain ones he will skip if he is far enough in other evetns etc., and he is not playing in any the 2 or 3 days before the 50K event as he doesnt want to chance being at a final table when that event is running. Others have noted that as soon as they bust out of one they are in line to register for the next event, but don't play two at once, so if they bust out after 5pm, then they are off early that night and play cash games or get a good night's sleep.

Saw this over on Daniel's forum. F'n newbies: :D

A severe penalty

A table is broken and players disperse to their new seating assignments. An inexperienced player arrives at his new table with about 700 in chips in his hand, puts them on the table, and reaches into his pocket for the rest of his chips (approximately 7000).

The players erupt, saying "You can't put chips in your pocket!".

The floor is called over and Dealers on both tables are consulted as to what happened. The Dealer on the table that was broken confirms he had approximately 8000. A penalty is warranted, and they rule that the 700 he put on the table will remain in play, but that the chips he put in his pocket will be forfeited.

Ouch. I can't believe people pay thousands of dollars for these events and don't know the simplest tournament rules.

Jamie Gold playing this year?

Only thing I've seen is this reference to him over at Daniel's forum:

I've only seen 2 references to him that I remember. He built a bit of a stack in a hold-em event early on but then obviously lost it all with a bit of a whimper.

I also read that he was knocked out of one event but argued with the dealer that he was not all in. The dealer counted it, and Goldy boy was sent on his merry way.

Sounds like the luckbox is not with him this year.

Cunningham is an absolute monster. 3 straight years with a bracelet. :D

Won't it be fun if Hellmuth wins his 11th?  This should be fun to watch on ESPN as I saw he has helped the dealer count the chips that he won several times or something. Sounds like he is on his A-game on and off the felt.

Someone said Doyle had $400k on Phil this year to win his 11th. :D

A little off topic but.. Do you guys enjoy watching Humberto or does he annoy you? I personally can't stand watching the guy and get very annoyed to the point of turning the channel when he is on.

I would also assume people hate playing at the same table with the guy.

is this just me or do people agree?

I agree, his act has gotten too over-the-top for my tastes personally.
