I met a couple of these guys. One was a friends Dad. He did 3 or 4 beach landings! :D He ended up in Ike's personal guard. Yup, he was in the airborne 101st and the 87th I believe.

My step father's father drove a landing boat 63 years ago today. He never spoke of it until a year before he died.

I wish I had. It's one of the places I would like to see one day.

 

I have been to the D-Day Memorial in Bedford County, VA (a couple of counties over). This was the town where per-capita, they lost the most residents on that day. It's very moving.

A friend of my Dad was one of those guys who parachuted in behind the beach from one of those gliders.

 

One thing I have always wanted to go see is Normandy and the cemetary there.
