So, There are no conservative professors because institutions of higher learning have an unwritten conspiracy against conservative white males? :D

I think that if a conservative white male wanted a job in academia, and they worked hard, and put in the years of schooling, that they could find a job. Is the unemployment line full of conservative white males with degrees suitable for a job in higher education? I don't think so.

I didnt say there werent any, but the field is obviously domintated by far leftists. They are alot more likely to hire people who think like they do rather than a conservative. You dont have any problems believing that people are discriminated based on their race. Why is it such a stretch to believe that they are discriminated based on their beliefs, especially in a field of ideas?

Or, just as probable, is that conservative white males don't have the necessary skill set to teach.

Well, based on the horrfic decline of public schools in this country, they couldnt do any worse than what the liberals have done.

First off, how would they even know what your political ideology is?

And secondly, by your logic, this "discrimination" would also apply in the business world as well... (do you really want to go there?)

uh, that was sort of the whole point--if spain's logic is correct, then white males would have a built-in advantage and hence hiring quotas/affirmative action for women and minorities would be necessary to level the playing field in most of the economy. I'm wondering if that is what spain is arguing for?

why not just hire the most qualified person for the job......and i have to say, white conservative males are usually the most qualified. so once again, like the duke kids, wcm's get screwed by lib propaganda.

That is what we have in place now. I know in that way up in that ivory tower you arent really connected to the real world, but come on down for a second. We definitely have quotas/AA in place in major corporations today. Maybe not formally, but it is there and race/sex must always be considered in hiring. Does academia do that with political ideology? I seriously doubt it.

Dumbass, I know that we have such a system in place now--your comments suggest that you are in favor of such as system.

And you never did answer my other question, how do academics know what the political ideology of their applicants are? (I have been on almost ten hiring committees and had no idea what the political leanings were of any of our candidates.)

A 2005 study by American and Canadian professors indicated that 72 percent of those teaching at U.S. colleges and universities identified themselves as liberal. Only 15 percent called themselves conservative.

So, if you don't like it, go become a professor.

Rothman sees the findings as evidence of "possible discrimination" against conservatives in hiring and promotion. Even after factoring in levels of achievement, as measured by published work and organization memberships, "the most likely conclusion" is that "being conservative counts against you," he said. "It doesn't surprise me, because I've observed it happening." The study, however, describes this finding as "preliminary."

Why would conservatives want to become teachers anyway? They aren't concerned about bettering society, just themselves...

a better individual makes for a better society.....and we have to offset the socialist teachings by keeping capitalism alive!!!!

I'm not all that concerned about bettering society--I just think being a professor is one of the most enjoyable jobs that there is.

:D so let's say spain DID go become a professor (of animal husbandry, perhaps?). that would bring his number down from 72% to, what, 71.999%?

So, this would be your logic for his not becoming a professor--because he wouldn't have that much of an impact anyway? That's just stupid.
