Lack of Talented Song Writers?

Recommended Posts

I know that there are alot of talented song writers today. Actually, I know at least 50 of them in Nashville through my buddies who work at EMI and from playing in the Music Row Poker League. So, to me there isnt a shortage of talented people writing, publishing, producing, and singing out there. But today, I turned on the radio and heard the song entitled; "I want to check you for ticks" :D I cant even imagine who thought that that would be a good idea for a song. But somebody actually published and then produced that song. :D And now they play it on the radio. Wow! Whats next? "I want to pop your back zits"?

I think it has more to do with a lack of class than a lack of talent.

When have music and class ever intersected?

Music just isn't as important to people as it used to be.

It's much more of a throwaway commodity than ever before if you consider the fatuous mainstream but there are a heck of a lot of bands out there writing and playing some very good stuff. They just don't get radio exposure. Check out pandora.com - there you can find all sorts of bands playing stuff that's similar to any band you care to plug in.

Lack of talented songwriters? You must be forgetting about the genius of The Bloodhound Gang

Sweat baby sweat baby

Sex is a Texas drought

Me and you do the kind of stuff that only Prince would sing about

So put your hands

Down my pants

And Ill bet you'll feel nuts

Yes I'm Siskel,

Yes I'm Ebert and you're getting two thumbs up

Youve had enough

Of two-hand touch

You want it rough

You're out of bounds

I want you smothered want you covered like my waffle house hashbrowns

Comin' quicker than Fedex

Never reach an apex

Like coca-cola stock you are inclined

To make me rise an hour early just like daylight savings time

Do it now

You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals

So lets do it like they do on the Discovery Channel

Do it again now

You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals

So lets do it like they do on the Discovery Channel

Gettin' horny now

Love the kind you clean up with a mop and bucket

Like the lost catacombs of Egypt only God knows where we stuck it

Hieroglyphics? let me be specific I wanna be down in your south seas

But I got this notion that the motion of your ocean means small craft advisory

So if I capsize on your thighs high tide, E5 you sunk my battleship

Please turn me on I'm mister coffee with an automatic drip

So show me yours Ill show you mine tool time you'll love it just like Lyle

And then well do it doggy style so we can both watch x-files

Do it now

You and me baby aint nothin but mammals

So lets do it like they do on the discovery channel

Do it again now

You and me baby aint nothin but mammals

So lets do it like they do on the discovery channel

My buddy at EMI just called me. I asked him about "I want to check you for ticks". He said that song was published by EMI and it is another #1 song for Brad Paisley! :D He said Paisley has made a mint on those gimmicky type songs. He has a video coming out that is a song about folks lying on the internet about who they are. The main character in the video is Jason Alexander(George Costanza) and Estel Gettes(George Costanza's mother) and William Shattner. Hasnt been released yet but said it will be HUGH! :D

Well the 1700s or so, to a large extent.

Music just isn't as important to people as it used to be.

Nope. And people's clues about music is a shadow of what it used to be too. More and more people care about form vs substance. GB the "MTV generation" :D

Check out Porcupine Tree... They'll change your mind.

And if you've lost faith in the younger generation, check out Thrice or Dustin Kensrue's solo album.

Amazing.

I just listened to them on mp3realm and they reminded me of the 70's British group Strawbs. Although I doubt many people heard of them either.

i wasnt alive back in 1770 :D

I'm listening to The New Pornographer's Electric Version right now - they write some of the best pop rock since Lennon/McCartney (okay, since Neilsen/Zander, at least).

It really just depends on which album/song you're listening to. They're talented enough to go into crazy time sigs and go into that really crazy Dream Theatre esque world. At other times they've got a pink floyd throwback sound going. They're all over the place.

And as far as the best music out today... Its easy.

Ben Harper

:D Are you a chick? I bet you like Dave Matthews too? :D

The problem is "country" music has been hijacked by your boys over at EMI. "Country" music is still a moneymaker for the record companies because most of its fans are still behind the mp3 curve and still buy cd's. Just saw Roby Keith on The Colbert Report.... super meh. I never tune into the pop "country" stations.

If you wanna hear some truly heartfelt and well written "country" music check out Jolie Holland. Shes like 22 from Houston, writes all (except the period covers) her own music, and has a voice that will melt your heart. I recomend you start with her second album "Escondida". She is on the label Anti. Check her out here... http://www.jolieholland.com/

I think Dave Matthews has some talent for songwriting.

Uh oh, did I just emasculate myself?

I agree, but it seems like every chick I date is obsessed with either Dave Matthews or Ben Harper.
