Best league host(s)

Recommended Posts

Hey, so I run a FF league. We have used nfsl forever (i still love them).. but the league has decided its time to use someone else.. anyway.. we need a few things...

~ we do a live draft so we need a semi easy way to draft and transfer data to the host

~ we need ipd support

~ we need an option for flexible line ups

~ heres the big one.. we do free agents, where the worst team in the league has first crack at the free agents each week (so the last place team team would have first pick/ first place team would have last pick and so on)..so we dont want a first come, first serve type of free agent system...

~ we need to customize the way the playoffs work (we do 16 teams.. 2 divisions.. top 2 teams in each division and the two remanding teams with the highest average)

does anybody use a similar setup?

MFL is great and Fanball isn't to bad. However, they are similarly priced so go with MFL. By the way the FA pickup method in that leagues sucks. Bad teams should not be awarded by getting the pick of the FA litter. You should have some type of a salary cap/bidding system in place so that every team has an equal shot at any player but has to manage their fake salary dollars throughout the season.

I bet 95% of the responses you get here will be MFL. That is my vote.

I'll mention RTSports, where my league has been hosted for about 5 years now. No problems at all with them, and their site design is a bit better than MFL's (at least before you do a good bit of customization).

I dont know why everyone loves MFL so much. It is reliable and flexible but the league pages are so dry and, at first, difficult to negotiate. I prefer Fanball. The league page is much slicker and its just as reliable and customizable as MFL.

I think reliable and flexible goes a lot further than pretty and snazzy.

ETA - I do understand the point though when comparing it to Fanball (which Ive never used). But when comparing to CBS, Yahoo, Fox, etc., anything is better than those.

I prefer Fanball. It has all the options you are looking for plus it is the cheapest. Even cheaper the MFL.

I can't speak for Fanball's reliability, I hear its a good site though. But to say it is as customizable as MFL just isn't true. MFL's customization options are near endless.

Does MFL have a waiver wire for every dropped player after the initial waiver wire process? If not, Fanball has that. Fanball has every option available as well and it is cheaper. BTW - I am in two Fanball leagues and 1 MFL league - soon to be two and I prefer Fanball over MFL. How can you say Fanball isn't as customizable as MFL when you don't even use it?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the waiver wire for every dropped player but in our league, it runs waivers every day, so I think the answer is yes, MFL has that option.

I set up a Fanball trial site a couple of years ago when we switched from CBS to MFL. For one, it didn't allow for 2 conferences at the time (I'm not sure if it does now), that was the main reason we went with MFL (only MFL and RTS allowed us to do that). And with customization...I was referring to the appearance of the site more than the rules....unless Fanball has changed a lot since I used them 2 years ago, there is no way you could create a custom page like the one in my signature on Fanball.

Yes MFL is set up to do pretty much whatever you want with waivers including running them automatically based on a multitude of different criteria. In MSHB we run 2 waivers per week, the first is a single player run based on record & then a first come, first serve waiver after the first is processed.

I commish 2 leagues and for one I use Fanball, the other MFL. I like Fanball, don't get me wrong, however, MFL is way more flexible in terms of being able to customize home pages and team pages. If you're not into that and prefer plain and ordinary than Fanball is more than sufficient.

I haven't used Fanball for a couple of years now but back then Fanball did not have the customization that MFL has. MFL Reporting has always been the best and MFL allows you to create your own Web site (if you know how to use CSS or XML code). Fanball did not allow alteration of the Web Site itself from what I remember.

Yeah, its kinda like your own FF Myspace page. Thats one of the things I dont dig about MFL. Every league I'm in has a different homepage layout. And the dropdowns arent intuitive enough. True, I cant make my league page wallpaper a giant Lombardi Trophy, but with Fanball I dont need to. The initial layout has easy to find links to the message board, the standings are in plain sight, updates for every team that affects my players that week and the matchups for every team that plays that week. And, yes, we have Divisions and 2 conferences in my 16 team league. There are pretty good print-n-poop articles for @ work on the main fanball page also. :D They have a few good writers IMO.

You do know that as an owner you have the ability to customize your home page however you want. I don't think I use the original layout on any of my MFL leagues.

I've used Fanball for 4 yrs now, and asked MFL if they would allow me to switch all our history/data, etc...... answer was, on a limited basis. Fanball I can go back any year, check any stat, it's right there, top scorers over all/per posotion, top scorers our league, my team, whatever. Our Huddle league, Any Given Sunday moved to MFL this year but I'll keep my other league at Fanball for the history and ability to go back to year 1. MFL does have more customizeable pages per looks, but I'll take Fanball for overall features.

Anyone know a good place to run my own league? I'm new to this fantasy football thing and want to know which site would be the best. Any suggestions would be great!
