the pio, paulo, terre del barolo

that's where I was leaning (towards the Barolo)

The only one that I know nothing about is the Terre del Barolo. I bought it in a small wine shop in Venice about 6 years ago and the shop owner said that it was an excellent wine. Apparently it is produced by a coop, but is the absolute best wine that the coop can put out. Who knows.

(The other two Barolos I bought in another small Itialian town and the shop owner there said "splendido" when I brought them to the counter.)

I might go with the Pio just because it is a wine that I know if needed I could get another one of.

I would also drink one of the two Barolos. 97 was a very nice year but not proving to be one that is going to age forever. There's a great chance that those are right in the wheelhouse right now.

Of the two, I would go with the Pio Cesare. Given the Scavino is a single vineyard wine, it is technically more remarkable and, when in doubt, I always drink my less special wines first. I also think that Scavino wines tend to be more classic and age worthy so the Pio has probably come around more.

As it turns out, I actually tasted the Pio Cesare last year at a tasting and it was lovely.

I popped open our first bottle tonight in 6 months. Mommy and daddy will have a glass to toast the litttle twiley.....

then promptly fall asleep.

Editors note: I haven't been sober for 6 months we just haven't opened any out of my collection. I've been dry for around 2 months though. :D

That's what I went with. I'll probably start drinking it in an hour or so.

Well, maybe not. Ended up drinking a Francis Tannahill Syrah. Standout wine, especially for a syrah from Oregon.

Well the Bud Lights were courtesy of my neighbor before I came home.

Oh and I'm not feeling quite as good today.

............ report?

well, at the risk of completely embarrassing myself since detlef has also tasted the wine, here goes:

I thought it was very smooth and balanced with berries, tar and leather(?) being the primary aromas I got from it. It had pleasant tannis with a long finish. Overall, very enjoyable!

(now, if detlef wants to come back and give a real assessment, I would actually appreciate it so that I can see where I went wrong.)

To begin with, what you taste, you taste. Secondly, berries, tar, and leather are all classic flavors of Barolo. To be honest, I have a horrible time remembering specifics, and I only take notes about 1/10th the time, so I can't recall my experience with that wine other than it was f'ing good.

Glad you liked it
