Going to a Beer Tasting this evening

Recommended Posts

At least 32 beers with artisan cheeses and gourmet appetizers

$25/head so it better be some damn fine gourmet appetizers :D

And I know the joke, 'You haven't tasted beer before?" so forgot using that one...

but I think it'll be cool. I've never been to one, any of you?

Seems like a pretty fair price to me. If the beers are cool, that is.

We had the International Brewers Festival in Portland a couple weeks ago which brought some very interesting beers...some good, some not so much. If its a $25 all you can drink deal, that seems pretty good to me. Some of these, we pay by the taste and it adds up faster than you'd think.

The Oregon Brewers Festival is next weekend but unfortunately, I'll be out of town.

Durham has a great festival. It's like $20 to get in and there are like 30 breweries there. Each having about 5-6 beers. It's a free for all and everyone is freaking plowed by the end. There are food booths so that is all extra. But it's a blast.

Here's a listing of the beers we had to sample. It was a fun time. They offered a spicy, black bean crusted pork loin and sushi among other foods.

Dogfish Head Festina Peche (peach beer)

Breckenridge Imperial ESB

Original Sin Hard Cider

Hoppin' Frog Double IPA

La Chouffe

Houblon Chouffe

Olfabrikken Porter (outstanding!)

Schlenkerla Helles Lagerbier

Samuel Smith Pale Ale

Lindemans Peche (lambic)

Duvel

Rogue 10,000 (Rogue's 10,000th batch of beer. $18/bottle)

Westmalle Triple

Rodenbach (a sour beer which was outstanding)

Ommegang Hennepin

Victory Golden Monkey (I've written about this one here before)

Southern Tier Unearthly Pale Ale (11.7% alc)

Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale

New Holland Existential Ale

Three Floyd's Gumball Head (outstanding!)

Moylan's Hopsickle (triple IPA - too hoppy for me)

Dragon's Milk

Weyerbacher Double Simcoe

Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter

St. Bernadus ABT 12

Thomas Hardy's Ale (an old ale barley wine, meant to be matured and kept in the wine cellar at 55 degrees. This was one of my faves)

Duchesse de Bourgogne

La Binchoise Reserve

Unibroue Maudite

Baltika #9 Extra Pale Lager (from Russia and extremely tasty)

Xingu Black Beer (from Brazil and a great beer)

Great Lakes Brewing Commodore Perry

Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald

Great Lakes Holy Moses

The Great Lakes Brewing Co also brought along some of the Edmund Fitzgerald (which is their porter) Ice Cream with chocolate fudge. Only found in their brewpub and not available in pints. Man that was some good cream...

I really enjoy Dogfish Head, although I'm always leery of "fruity" beers. Did you try the dogfish and how was it?

Well, it sounds like $25 was a great deal. That's a very nice lineup.
