I realized after creating this list that I would put more British/UK bands towards the top of my all time favorites vs. America.... The Vatican Hitsquad Posted July 22, 2007 Share Posted July 22, 2007 as much as i love Queen, any other selection from the list besides the Beatles and you would just be ignoring the influence they had upon rock. I'm not a giant fan of them myself, but I can't ignore what they meant for music. Also, did anybody else hear on Stern a few weeks ago that classic rock specialist who proved, or suggested very convincingly, that Zepplin ripped off their whole first album? Before the Beatles an album consisted of the hit song and a bunch of trash. They raised the bar. No matter what genre ie: country, rock, easy listen, or top 40, the reason the songs on a cd are not throw away songs is because of the Beatles. There is no other band in music history that created that change. This why they are the greatest band of all time. Can anyone name a band before them that had a great album all the way through? Very short-lived, highly influential career's that Bob Dylan, McCartney and Lennon all recognize as being inspirational to their careers. I'm partial to King Crimson myself, but in their 2nd incarnation they had too many Americans (Levin and Belew most notibly) to count for this poll.
