For me, Zepplin is probably wins the title.

I realized after creating this list that I would put more British/UK bands towards the top of my all time favorites vs. America....

There are at least seven bands on this list superior to any American band.

HEY! What about Queen for all the switch-hitters here at the Huddle?!

as much as i love Queen, any other selection from the list besides the Beatles and you would just be ignoring the influence they had upon rock. I'm not a giant fan of them myself, but I can't ignore what they meant for music.

Also, did anybody else hear on Stern a few weeks ago that classic rock specialist who proved, or suggested very convincingly, that Zepplin ripped off their whole first album? Hearing the songs he played from the album, and then the songs that they were ripped from, makes it a far more convincing than just reading it.

Don't know if theyre the greatest - but by far the most important, relevant and interesting band on that list is the CLASH

As much as I wanted to vote for Zep, I simply can't ignore The Beatles and their influence. Ursa was correct in stating that at least 7 of these are better than any American band.

One thing people forget about the Beatles is that they were the first band to make every song on an album a good song. Before the Beatles an album consisted of the hit song and a bunch of trash. They raised the bar. No matter what genre ie: country, rock, easy listen, or top 40, the reason the songs on a cd are not throw away songs is because of the Beatles. There is no other band in music history that created that change. This why they are the greatest band of all time. Can anyone name a band before them that had a great album all the way through? If you can, I will give you ----uh, uh, hmmmm, --- :D uh--oh yeah, :D ,my deepest admiration!

Well, how about Buddy Holly and the Crickets? Very short-lived, highly influential career's that Bob Dylan, McCartney and Lennon all recognize as being inspirational to their careers. They wrote their own music, a unique concept in that day, amongst other thigns.

+1

You should take The Beatles off this list, add Queen and call the poll "2nd greatest British group of all time".

I'm partial to King Crimson myself, but in their 2nd incarnation they had too many Americans (Levin and Belew most notibly) to count for this poll.

Love Zeppelin, but had to go with the Beatles. They literally changed the face of music.

as much as i'd love to vote for the clash, to be realistic this is a two-horse race (beatles/stones), and then it's basically a coin flip. today i'm in a stones mood.

I voted for Led Zep but depending upon my mood, could have gone with any of the top 5 on that list.
