JWP 45
The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn under the butt nut hut... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it. Won the last two games and knocked two teams out of the playoffs in the process. Oh and there was a 5 and something season in the Core too. Bring Back Pat!!!
Ok, so I'm a semi-newbie. I was around here some last year, probably did more lurking than posting... WHO: Bring Back Pat!!! (Old-School Patriots logo. Used to be the avatar, but when you find confirmation of what Simpson's fans have long suspected, you gotta go with it) Life-long Pats fan, also a Skins fan. WHAT: Kitchen Designer by, well....I get paid for doing it, but always seem to have FF on the brain. WHEN: Soon to be 29 WHERE: Manch-Vegas, NH. Cause when the lights go down, the freaks come out. WHY: As if any of us can answer that!! Cause I'm a slow white guy that can't play the game. Cause I don't have enough money to buy a real franchise. Cause I can't inagine watching football on Sunday's without it. But most of all, because I'm addicted. BIO: Play two locals, one a dynasty entering year 16, the other a re-draft I'm playing for the 2nd. Play three leagues at ESPN, re-drafts, for between 2-4 years each. And any other leagues that come around.... Maybe it's time for an update: WHO: Bring Back Pat!!! (Old-school Pats logo, they NEED to bring back, the flying ELVIS is awful) WHAT: Kitchen & Bath Designer WHEN: Now soon to be 30. Ouch. Now Married. Double Ouch. WHERE: Still in Manch-Vegas, NH WHY: I'm addicted. I know it. And I'm ok with it. BIO: Still in same two locals. Down to one league at ESPN, just because. Now in 4 BOTH leagues, Bling Bling, Weapons of DMD, 32 Homaaarrrrs (not sure the proper # of a's and r's) and Home Field Advantage.
rajncajn
WHAT: Kitchen & Bath Designer BBP, I'm going to be doing my kitchen soon. Have any tips, maybe what I need to have when I go to the cabinet place etc? I've already done up a rough CAD sketch with all the dimensions with the exception of my appliance dimensions. Mostly wondering how the whole process works.
Bring Back Pat!!!
Although every store will run the process differently, I do have some tips. First, look at lots of pictures. Things you like as well as things you don't like. Anything you can bring with you to the designer is such a help and speeds the process along so much. Even if it's something mimor, like, I like this molding treatment, or I hate this colr door. Anything like that will make the design process so much less painfull. Second, go to an independant dealer. Meaning, stay out of the box stores like HD and Lowes. The experience level typically is much greater at an local shop, and the level of attention you'll get is much greater. Also, your near garaunteed to deal with the same person or couple of people for the entire job. I couldn't tell you how many times a customer comes to me and says they got a design from HD, went back with some questions and their designer was selling plywood. Third, start looking at appliances now. Go to a good dealer, and pick out as much as you can ahead of time. Again, makes the design process faster. As far as the timeline. You should meet with someone and they should want to come to your house and take field measurements. (I just got back from a measure when I read this post). Then they should do a design or two for you on a CAD program specifically for kitchens. I use 20/20, but Planit is also popular. Then once a design is agreed upon, the cabinets and counters are priced up. As a remodel kitchen, a good rule of thumb to use for future re-sale is the value of the kitchen should be between 10-15% of the value of the house. That's cabinets, counters, appliances, etc. Spend a lot less than that and you're not doing the house justice, spend way more and you'll never get it back in additional sale price. Hope this helps, and feel free to ask any questions along the way!!
