stevenmann
My Thoughts Thru The Wire: Week 6 *** ***Will be updated throughout the week*** *** DISCLAIMER *** If you are the ‘show me the stats’ ‘ kinda guy, the ‘meat and potatoes’ type of player or are in any way adverse to any type of comedic infusion into your NFL information intake, this post is not for you. On the other hand, if you enjoy a little sarcasm with just a dash of insanity in your NFL sauce, please pull up a chair and enjoy your meal. First down! Repulsive Retort Report… Watching Travis Johnson on and off the field yesterday made me feel completely conflicted and sick to my stomach. In spite of his defensible anger, I can’t recall seeing a more pathetic site then TJ taunting the collapsed frame of Trent Green. It was classless, barbaric and exceedingly foul behavior to say the least. What makes it more difficult, is that a part of me can moderately understand the anger and adrenaline that was flowing throughout Johnson’s body. After all, the hit was far from legal, not to mention reckless and extremely unsafe. Johnson’s career could have also ended right there on the 45 yard line … easily. Damn, what an awful situation. It was just one of those things I hope we never have to see again. Blessings and support to the entire Green Family. Support and a titanic stable of advisors, PR. personnel and forgiveness for Travis Johnson. Damn!!! BTW I came across some interesting posts and opinion here (in case you’re interested) http://boards.houstontexans.com/showthread.php?t=3089 Who said you can’t go home again… Before I run through the pick-ups for week 6 there is one small nugget of business that needs to be addressed. In light of yesterday’s game, I would like to be the first to applaud Joey Harington’s unpleasant presentation. After 6 days of hype, hope and unconcealed optimism, it’s nice to see such a blissful and appropriate homecoming. (Clear the Tarmac, start the band) Let’s face it… Every warm carcass that plays fantasy football simply got caught up in what turned out to be just another happy hallucination. In light of yesterdays stat line I would like to cordially invite you in helping me welcome Joey Harrington, back to fantasy obscurity and scrutiny. To say we missed you Joey would be a colossal understatement. After all how much material can we milk out of David Carr and the soon to follow Brodie Croyle. With that in mind please feel free to view and sign the following… With love…. http://www24.123greetings.com/card/10/08/1...8103717561.html WEEK 6: WHO TO ADD & WHO TO EVADE *** Will be updated throughout the week*** WEEK 6 RB BYE WEEKS: Lynch, Henry/S.Young, Jones/ Bell, Parker/Davenport, Gore, and Addai/Keith. Door #1 Jason Wright: RB Cleveland If drafting Jamal Lewis is wrong, then I don’t wanna be Wright. Selecting Jamal Lewis as your #2 RB was a bold move indeed. However, staring him weekly is straight up heroic on your part. Having faith in Jamal is like having faith in the NRA, how ever you slice it, chances are you’re gonna get burned and wind up shooting yourself in the foot. (Time to reload) As of now (Monday) Jamal Lewis will undergo an MRI for his foot, if it shows any damage you could do a lot worse than Jason Wright. This situation and the results of the MRI should me monitored closely. The good news is looking at Wright’s game log from ’04, ’05, and ’06 there haven’t been any unstable stat fluctuations. What ya see is what you get… an abundance of nothing. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7152/g....uLYF?year=2004 http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7152/g....uLYF?year=2005 http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7152/g....uLYF?year=2006 On the other hand, in week 5 Wright came into the game and put up over 100 all purpose yards. Is that gonna win you a championship? Almost certainly not… Nevertheless with the Miami D on deck in week 6 he could put up similar if not better numbers, and thus becoming a serviceable yet nauseating fill in alternative. But again this is ‘Fantasy’ Football… Last week I (and many of you) projected Ron Dayne to demolish and compress the Miami run D, and he barely squeaked out a partially productive day. If you own Jamal Lewis maybe you should take a closer look at Wright. I’m not saying run, but perhaps slowly saunter over to the wire and take a small gander. After all, think about how much fun you’ll have next Sunday watching ‘em while snacking on Trazodone and Red Bull… Game on my brothers! Survey says: Add… Again monitor the situation and more so the results of Jamal’s MRI. If he is going to miss any significant time, Wright may surprise you. After all if Joey Harrington can get props then Wright is the new-fangled fantasy treat of the week. Dig in Tubbs! Door #2 Gus Frerotte: QB St. Louis http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/2869 Gus Frerotte is to Mark Bulger what Kurt Warner was to Trent Green… Simply put, presently a better option. I truly can’t figure this one out… In spite of the 3 picks, Gus Frerotte in reality looked like more like Mark Bulger than himself going 24-of-43 for 262 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday. Gus Frerotte? What a peculiar year at the QB position. Gus Frerotte has been playing so long that his first pass was thrown from a Medieval Siege Weapon and caught with a Halberd. Now that’s one crafty and well aged veteran. Fast forward a few thousand years, and 7 teams later and what you’re left with is one passable looking fill in QB. This isn’t a hard sell… But who knows when Bulger returns? For me (and hopefully for you) this addition would only be in the name of possibility and depth. Survey Says: Add… The Rams face the Baltimore D next week. Please note that through 5 games this year the supposedly ‘parsimonious’ (Don’t be scared it’s just a fancy word for ungenerous) Baltimore D has given up a whopping 274.0 yards per game in the air to their 66.6 yards on the ground. Take a shot… Why not? What do you have to lose other than your week 6 match-up? Besides we all feel you were getting way too cocky. In fairness you need to be grounded and leveled out. This winning streak of yours will not continue… Take a flyer… See the upside… Sequester this golden ticket to fantasy freedom. Remember, you win as a team, you lose as a team but the humiliation of it all is forever independent! Enjoy! Door #3 Kenneth Darby: RB Tampa Bay ***Only as a potential Cuff for Graham*** Again this entire RB situation is a crapshoot. Here’s a few thoughts from The Tampa Tribune: http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sports/s...-on-speed-dial/ Here we go again… After a week long debate heading into week 5, yet again we have a carbon copy, reasonably hand drawn facsimile of the exact same silly situation. What’s in store for next week? The official Darby vs. Jim Finn thread? To say the Tampa Bay Bucs have had some bad luck is like saying Matt Millen has been modestly mediocre. Isiah Thomas had some bad luck… So far this season the Bucs backfield has been consistently cursed. There is a new Poll Posted in The Forum that talks about the situation. http://forums.thehuddle.com/index.php?showtopic=223555 As of this moment I’m not sure if Darby will have any value to anyone other than Graham owners. It was reported today that Pittman is going to miss a substantial amount of time. Also bear in mind that TB can (and possibly might) go out and make a deal for some additional depth at any time. As a previous Caddy owner and present Pittman/Graham owner, I confess I’d rather own time share in Jalalabad than be a part of this disarray. This situation reeks more than an REO Speedwagon reunion tour! Come on… Seriously between you and me, what’s worse than this? http://youtube.com/watch?v=DoORkOg5Wsk Survey Says: Add… Only if you have too… This is a puzzling state of affairs. If you have the depth to avoid this entire situation I say run for your life. But again if you currently own a TB running back not named Pittman or Williams maybe play on the side of caution, and take a closer look. If you believe that there’s nowhere to go but up, read this overloaded stat line and see ya on the flipside! http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8500;_...yBCtnnj49r.uLYF Door #4 Kevin Walter: (Again) WR Houston This is what I wrote in week 4. I say stash Walter on your bench. Who knows when the rest of the WR corps is going to be healthy again? I can see Walter putting up 70-85 yards and perhaps a TD. Maybe not Vs ATL next week, but decent stats could be in store for week 5 (barring the return of Johnson) VS. Miami. Again I wouldn’t waste a waiver spot on ‘em, but he is worth a ‘flyer’. Again don’t start ‘em if you have better options, but if Walter becomes your best option next week, allow me to apologize on behalf of every fantasy football player that has ever played this game. And on behalf of all of us… Thanks man… Its guys like you that give guys like me a ‘W’. Play on playa. Fast forward to week 6. Maybe I was slightly extravagant with my initial projections, but as far as stability has there been a better substitute bridesmaid the previous 2 weeks? Sure A. Davis has been outstanding and is being paid most of the attention. However don’t sleep on his unsightly ‘possession’ associate. Furthermore, don’t overlook 10 targets from week 5 (5th highest total for the week awaiting T.O and Lee on Monday night.) and 7 from week 4. In the past 2 weeks Kevin Walter has been targeted more than the following WR’s: Braylon Edwards, Chris Chambers, Roy Will, Steve Smith, Reggie Wayne, Branch, Colston, Galloway, and Donald Driver. Disturbing stat isn’t it? Just to pat a little more saline into the stats, in the past 2 games Walters is tied with both Plax and Moss in overall targets. Look, were there exterior circumstances and untimely events that lead to those numbers? Of course there were, this is fantasy football! By adding Kevin Walter you’ll send a brawny message to the rest of your league. And more importantly right after you win the consolation final you’ll be glad you did. Survey Says : Add… Temper your expectations just a bit. Next on deck, the Jacksonville Jaguars who currently rank 7th overall yielding no more than 178.3 passing yards per game. If ya love the NE pass D, don’t overlook the Jags. They’ve given up only 1.1 yards more per game. Regardless if ya do have some bye issues next week, this guy may be worth the price of admittance. Take a chance, do it with passion and fervor. However when AJ finally returns, drop ‘em like it’s hot. Other names to Track: ***Will be updated throughout the week*** - Jason Campbell: QB Washington (hard to disregard 23-of-29,248 yards and 2 Td's Without Moss) - Kurt Warner: QB Arizona (Yet again, Leinart sidelined indefinitely. Time for old man river to get wet unaccompanied in week 6 Vs. the Panthers. Will he relinquish the reins again?) Rotoworld reported that Cardinals placed Matt Leinart on injured reserve, ending his season... Time to Bump up old man River! - Greg Olsen: TE Chicago. (It’s hard not to like this kid. In week 5 Vs. GB Olsen had four receptions for 57 yards and a score. He’s getting closer no doubt. If you need a bye week fill in especially in a few weeks, maybe roll the dice) - Dennis Northcutt: WR Jags (Why not? Northcutt is gently becoming the ‘male’ in Jacksonville. Worth a look in leagues deeper than the Arctic Basin) - Kenton Keith: RB Indianapolis Colts (After watching KK explode Vs. T-Bay, if you own Addai and don’t own Keith yet, sign here -------- and enjoy being the individual owner of The Union Bank of Nigeria) - Mewelde Moore: RB MIN (could wind up making a splash in TB if the price is right. Every time he has been given the opportunity he has produced especially in the passing game) - Kellen Clemens: QB NYJ (Chad Pennington to Jerricho Cotchery… Less than four minutes remaining… Nuff said) - Nate Burleson: WR Seahawks (Branch (2 games) and Hackett are both down, Seattle has N.O. and St Louis next 2 games) - Keenan McCardell: WR Washington. (That's right, just when you thought it was safe, here comes Keenan. In his first game back from Del Bocca Vista, KM caught 2 balls for 39 yards, modest indeed. However if Moss and Randle El miss next game ya never know.. What a sick year it's been) - Drew Bennett: WR St Louis (Bruce looks to miss week 6 with a hamstring injury, may be worth a look) Evade Like The Plague… ***Will be updated throughout the week*** The following players haven’t publicized anything that warrants a spot on my team. - Byron Leftwich: Looked Pathetic on Sunday despite the limited prep. - Devery Henderson, Lance Moore, Robert Meachem Terrance Copper, David Patten, Keith Poole, Andre Hastings and Quinn Early. And all other WR’s that have ever called NO home. Yes, Brees had looked that appalling. - Cleo Lemon: For no other reason than the fact I refuse to be linked to the name Cleo in any way. Same goes for Blanche, Beatrice, Gertrude, And Vondella. - Antwaan Randle El: (Even after his second big game of the season he's day to day with hamstring issues, buyer beware) - Dominic Rhodes: RB Raiders: (returns this week, unless you own Jordan, look away nothing to see here) - Ciatrick Fason, Kevan Barlow, Shaud Williams, Tony Fisher or LaBrandon Toefield (Step right up and see if you can predict the next contestant that rides shotgun with Graham) Good Luck In Week 6 fellas... H8tank
That's more formatting than hitlery's resume. Darby is a practice squad player 5th stringer, TB will trade for someone... or watch for lundy or veron. Kevin Walter? wow... 16 team league maybe. Otherwise, pass. Northcutt makes a nice 3rd or 4th. stevenmann
he's LJ2 technically....because Johnson earned the LJ name before Jordan did... Yes, but there must be a time when are forced to relinquish the name due to sub par performance... Here's hoping for a stonger second half for Larry Johnson. I personally moved LJ down my rankings because of the direction the offense has been headed.... I mean, his stock has been going down since Roaf retired and then so did the other tackle that slips my mind right now along with having Huard as the QB and losing Richardson as a FB.... it started last year and I think it's in full effect right now... if he keeps this up, I'll consider him a strong buy low candidate down the stretch... ...but then again, he's been on my "high risk" for injury since tallying so many carries last year along with his bruising style to boot...
