OK. I have a situation with my mail carrier.

I have a typical, 3 bedroom ranch house. I have a standard stoop on the front of my house with one step to get to up to the front door. My mailbox is located to the left as you walk up the steps.

As you face my house, I have a row of evergreen bushes about 3 feet high that spans the entire front left of my house. A nice hedge, you might say. Anyway, my front spigot is behind that row of bushes, so I typically roll up my garden hose behind that row of bushes, because it is out of sight. I also put my recycle bin behind that row of bushes, because you cannot see the bin from the street and it's a convenient place to put the recycling before I set it out for the weekly pickup. The location of the bin is behind the bushes, next to the stoop, and under the mailbox. (at ground level. stoop is about 2 feet above ground level. mailbox is about 3 feet above stoop).

I get a note a few weeks ago from my mail carrier to move my recycle bin because it impedes his progress to the mailbox. Keep in mind he has to go through my bushes to get to the mailbox, when he can very easily climb one step to the stoop and put the mail in the mailbox. In other words, he is trying to take a shortcut through my landscaping to save himself a step up.

This note irritated me because:

1. I take great pride in my yard and landscaping, so I'm mad that he goes through my carefully groomed bushes to get to the mailbox.

2. My stoop is only one step, and is always clean and free of impediments that might otherwise dictate a secondary move through the bushes to get to the mailbox. In other words, he always has a clean path to the mailbox via the entry stoop.

My question is, what do I do now?

Do I complain and tell him to use the stoop like a normal person, or do I just move the recycle bin and live with the worn down path he has created through my bushes?

I feel if I complain my mail will get lost mysteriously and I won't get the ghey porn irish keeps sending me.

Any advice?

I'm almost afraid to tell you this, CD. You suffer from what alot of typical American citizens suffer from. You have a doooshbag mailman. Let me get this straight. Does he walk(as you are looking at the front of your house) from the left to the right? In other words does he deliver your neighbor's house on the left, then yours, then the house on the right? Is he making a path between the bushes or is he walking behind them? I simply don't understand why he doesn't do the easy thing and step up one step to deliver your mail. Yep. You got the doooshbag mailman disease. I had one for awhile myself, only he worked out of the same PO as I so I had a little chat with him. His doooshyness ways soon ceased.

Seriously, I know you're probably not around to see him in person. But if you can, talk to him in person. Maybe he has a reason for his assinine behavior. I certainly can't see it from your post. You can always call your Post Office when he's still in the office, say between 7:30AM and 9:00AM. Ask to speak with your carrier. Talk to him nicely as you don't want your lights shut off(just kidding). If a nice chat with the man/woman doesn't do the trick, bring the notice he gave you to your Post Office and ask to speak with the station manerger or another supervisor. They may just come out to your house and check it out themselves. This may piss him/her off a little but there's nothing he can do if he values his job that is.

Save that notice though. It's your proof that he's a lazy f*ck and won't climb a single step. Good luck and please PM me what happens as I'm curious. I can't stand when certain doooshy mail carriers give the the rest of us a bad name. :D

I work for the Postal Service, and I agree with Jax.

I purchased a pair of tickets for the Nascar Richmond race in May.They were sent Registered Mail so he would know that I received them.

Several days later I heard the mailman drive by.It was raining like crazy.I expected my tickets, but figured they would arrive the next day.I went to the mailbox only to find a "Sorry we missed you" notice. The guy didn't walk up and ring my doorbell because it was raining hard.Little did he know I was right there in the kitchen when he went by.He probably didn't figure I also worked at Citygate, which is where he originates from. All Gahanna carriers start there.

The next day,I went to the Gahanna office at Citygate, grabbed the supervisor, and told him,"The next time one of your carriers decides he won't ring a doorbell to deliver registered mail because he doesn't want to get wet,he might want make sure the person he's supposed to deliver to isn't actually there."

The supervisor asked what my address was.I declined to tell him,as I didn't want to get a fellow employee in trouble. He did say he would address all of the carriers about it though.

yeah, or put some sort of boundary (like a small fence) behind it.

This is what I'd do, that and I'd make sure to be there one day to watch him put the mail in, then come outside and confront him about everything.

This has been done to me before. Not that I was a little buddy, but sometimes people don't want you walking through bushes between houses. I take the hint and walk around. Afterall, my legs aren't broken. Well, right now my knee if f'ked up but I've never been a lazy ass. I'm good to my peoples. :D

I haven't moved the stuff yet, and seeing how I'm not confrontational I probably won't say anything for now. I'm waiting to see what his next move is. My mail has made it into the mailbox, but he's been giving me dirty looks every day.

On a side note, I was outside yesterday watering the grass, and he was walking in front of my neighbors across the street. I heard this "thud" and saw he dropped a package. I called out to him that he dropped a package. He says: " It's their package. I'll pick it up after I walk around the block". (they weren't home)

In other words, he didn't want to carry it around the block as he delivered mail so he left it on the sidewalk. For about 20 minutes. Right by the street for anyone to pick up.

I assume this isn't protocol? :D

I was going to say put a trip wire up and spray him with fox urine or skunk musk.

But I like yours much better. :D

Actually, I like the Urine/musk thingee better! much more subtle, and a good deterrent! :D

this happened to me, too, with DHL. i was expecting something on a saturday that was important for work and that i needed that day. by 5:30 pm it hadn't arrived. i was expecting a largish box, and i made sure to stay home all day, and it never came. so i contacted the sender, but they couldn't find the tracking number. i figured that was code for "we forgot to send it." on monday, i went to get our mail -- DHL had stuck it in our mailbox on saturday. it was raining on saturday, so he was too lazy to get out. on the tracking info (which the sender finally sent me on monday), it said "delivered on front door." plus, the thing fit into a medium-sized envelope capable of fitting in our mailbox (contrary to what the sender said), and i noticed the mailman about three hours earlier than usual on saturday, so by the time DHL came, i had already gotten the mail. in years of getting stuff from DHL, they've never left anything in our mailbox.

I thought it was illegal for private businesses to put stuff into people's mailboxes. :D

Our mailman sucks, he's always giving us neighbor's mail, and he can't seem to get to our house before 7pm. I tried to talk to someone down at the post office and the guy rolled his eyes at me and brought out complaint paperwork. I said, "No, I don't want to make anything official, I just want to talk to the guy." And he sighed and rolled his eyes again and told me I'd have to make an official report.

So I did. F him. That guy was a major ass.

My dad told me he made an official complaint about his mail carrier, and his mail started getting lost. You can't fight the system.
