So, "we" want to make a slideshow to run during the first dance (about 4 minutes). If you can help steer me in the direction of an easy (free) program, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'd like to be able to control how long each picture displays, maybe zoom in or out on pictures, and I need to be able to burn the slideshow to a DVD and play it on a DVD player.

Actually, I just went through this. I was asked to put together a 90 minute slideshow for my Mom's 80th birthday. They sent me 900 pics and gave me two weeks to come up with it.

I found out that there is software within Windows Vista that does all of this. You decide how long the pics stay on the screen, you add music, you decide how the pics change from one to the next (there are several options). One tip- when you burn the DVD, use a slower speed. It helps prevent glitches, or at least it did for me.

Final product turned out great - I made about 100 of the DVD's and people were going apesh!t over them.

how are you going to be displaying it at the wedding? if it's on a TV, then yeah, just go with the DVD, but if you're going to be projecting it on a screen you might think about also doing the slideshow in powerpoint or something, because the pictures will be displayed at a much higher resolution. just something else to think about.

Hmmm... Az has a point there. That would be easy to create and higher resolution. You'd be stupid not to do it that way.

Its just going out to multiple flat screen TVs - all around 40 inches or so. I have pretty high quality images from digital cameras and scans of old family photos, so I don't think resolution will be a problem. They look crystal clear on a 22" monitor. I'll check movie maker out.

Try DVD Slideshow.

There is a demo you can download that will do just what you want. You can add music too.

Thanks for tips.

I figured there had to be something available that I've just never used.

the problem is, when you convert it to DVD or export it using windows movie maker, it goes down to 640x480. if you want it to look close to as good as it does now, putting it on DVD (at least for the actual wedding) may not be the way to do. assuming the 40 inch TVs are HD, you can get a better picture. only problem is it may be complicated, using a laptop, making sure their system has the right inputs, etc. I dunno, if I were you, I'd probably just go with the DVD...just know that they'll look OK, but not nearly as good as they do on your monitor.

Good tip. I'll check it out on my home TV - DVD vs laptop - to see the difference.
