EJ Henderson put on IR

Anyone have news on EJ Henderson's injury. I know he has 2 dislocated toes, but any other news?

From Rotoworld:

Coach Brad Childress revealed Monday that MLB E.J. Henderson dislocated two toes on his left foot in the Vikings' Week 4 loss

.

Henderson has been outfitted with a protective boot and given no timetable for return, although the Vikings play on Monday night in Week 5 so he has an extra day to get ready. If Henderson can't go, David Herron will start.

I would check Rotoworld again in the next couple of days to see if there's any new information. I would gather that this is the kind of injury that may keep him out, or at very least limit him a bit.

Wednesday Update:

Henderson held out of practice that never happened

October 1st, 2008 – 3:42 PM by Judd Zulgad The Vikings won’t return to practice until Thursday to begin preparation for Monday night’s game against New Orleans. However, under NFL rules not only did the Vikings and Saints have to issue injury reports, they also had to project whether players would have been limited or held out of practice if they had practiced.

Got that?

In the case of middle linebacker E.J. Henderson, who has two dislocated toes on his foot, he did not participate in a practice that never happened because the projection was he couldn’t have taken part. Safety Madieu Williams (neck), tight end Jim Kleinsasser (foot), receiver Sidney Rice (knee), defensive end Ray Edwards (shoulder) and linebacker Vinny Ciurciu (knee) were limited in a practice that gives new meaning to fantasy football.

Vikings will likely go without Henderson

Posted: News | NFL.com Staff | Tags: E.J. Henderson, Minnesota Vikings

The signs aren’t encouraging for Vikings starting MLB E.J. Henderson to play in Monday night’s game against the Saints. Henderson, who dislocated two toes in last week’s game, did not practice on Thursday and is wearing a walking boot to immobilize his left foot. Coach Brad Childress said Thursday that Henderson continues to experience swelling in the foot, which isn’t allowing team doctors to assess his condition.

“We’re still trying to get the swelling down in that thing,” Childress said. “It’s swollen pretty good and he’s treated here over the weekend and through Wednesday. The swelling is tough coming down. It’s hard to make all the evaluations you need to make until the swelling comes down where you can really put your hands on it and move it around. At this point in time, it’s just a little too painful for that. He’s going to be in a boot just to immobilize that joint so it’s not moving around and to protect it.”

Childress said during his press conference on Thursday that second-year pro David Herron would start if Henderson is unable to play. Vikings.com has more on the story.

Henderson placed on injured reserve

October 6th, 2008 – 1:55 PM by Judd Zulgad NEW ORLEANS — Late last week we reported that Vikings middle linebacker E.J. Henderson was expected to miss at least a month after dislocating two toes on his left foot. Turns out the news is much worse.

The Vikings placed Henderson on season-ending injured reserve today, according to people with knowledge of the situation. The exact nature of Henderson’s injury isn’t yet clear but we’ll keep following the situation. Henderson was hurt in the Vikings’ loss at Tennessee on Sept. 28 and had his foot in a protective boot last week.

However, doctors were unable to do a complete examination until the swelling went down. By placing Henderson on IR, the Vikings clear a roster space for left tackle Bryant McKinnie. McKinnie was reinstated by the NFL last Monday after serving his four-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy but the Vikings were given a one-week roster exemption for him.
